World News@lemmy.world•Sierra Leone’s first lady refuses to condemn female genital mutilation without ‘reliable data’ on harmsEnglish
121·7 days agoif she doesn’t have any data on the benefits (and she doesn’t, because there aren’t) then the question regarding harms is moot to begin with. Don’t cut up children’s bodies without a medical necessity, period.
Because that requires acknowledging the value and struggles of people outside yourself
That’s just an explanation of what empathy is, not an explanation as to why empathy should have no limits.
Nope. Read Geneva convention once again
“The Occupying Power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.”
Only thing I could find that’s relevant, but doesn’t apply since she moved there on her own accord. Mind helping me find the section you are thinking of?
Empathy is never earned
Why not?
she moved to occupied land during an active war becoming a participant in the occupation. She does not show any empathy towards the people whose land she is occupying, yet you’re asking us to have empathy for her because her occupation is not going as planned?

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•I'm a little worried about some recent news about military command reform, can somebody explain it to me?
31·10 days agoMy third paragraph excludes LLMs, why can’t you just go back and read the whole comment instead of just insisting to be right.
Also if you do that you will find “learn to improve” not “manage completely autonomously”
This entire thread is you just ferociously arguing a series of strawmen. Just stop.

31·10 days ago“But you can”
Are you unable to read further than the “but you can” part, where it says “machine learning algorithm”, and not “generative AI”?

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•I'm a little worried about some recent news about military command reform, can somebody explain it to me?
3·10 days agoI very highly doubt that Ukraine is trying to automate command rooms to give orders based on GPT hallucinations.
But you can definitely have machine learning algorithms learn how to effectively control drone swarms. Or learn to improve logistics and things like that.
Machine learning algorithms are also called AI and have been around for way longer than GPT or Grok

31·10 days agoI specifically excluded generative AI like GPT, or Claude in my post, so why are you bringing that back up?

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•Why does the "ePoints" system not get more criticism?
91·11 days agoUkraine didn’t roll this out all at once on a whim.
They tested it on small sections of the front, saw that it was effective and rolled it out to more sections. This has been slowly in the making for years.
They also don’t do their entire logistics on this point based system, it’s a supplimentary mechanism.
You’re way too focused on ivory tower philosophizing.

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•Why does the "ePoints" system not get more criticism?
51·11 days agowar is icky by its very nature. It promotes weapons and tactics that make killing more efficient, because that helps you win.
If a points based logistics system makes killing more efficient it will become more widespread, simple as that.

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•I'm a little worried about some recent news about military command reform, can somebody explain it to me?
91·11 days agoA UAV isn’t going to sit in the command room and make phone calls.

131·12 days agoThere are other AI systems than LLM slop machines.
UA has been successfully using AI vision systems for a while, which is why Russia is trying to camouflage trucks with dazzle paint.

21·12 days agoyou would have signed if you had a community mail box just the same.
maybe inform yourself before arguing a point you don’t understand
Also I addressed that very point in my previous comment, which you promptly proceeded to ignore
And when it is necessary it’s still available.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada Post announces nearly 500K addresses to lose home delivery
21·12 days agoIs it? Does reliable, secure ID delivery really have “little extra value”?
Home mail delivery isn’t secure ID though, and most mail doesn’t require that in the first place. And when it is necessary it’s still available.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada Post announces nearly 500K addresses to lose home delivery
22·12 days agocost is a perfectly valid reason.
yes, public services don’t need to generate profits, but that doesn’t mean it’s reasonable for public services to squander public finances.
home mail delivery for everyone adds very little extra value for a lot of extra cost.

2·13 days agoIf something stands above capitalism and controls it, then that is the governing philosophy and deserves the -ism, not capital.
capitalism isn’t a form of governance it’s an economic system.
Democracy is a form of governance, so is plutocracy, or monarchy, or aristocracy.
Many different forms of governance can structure their economy using capitalism.
But a capitalist economy will always push the current form government towards plutocracy
I’ll be impressed when his car hasn’t caught fire after a month.
