Books@lemmy.world•I think I couldn't possibly agree more with this list than I do.
3·7 days agoThere are oh-so-many “you simply must read this!” books in my trash bins over the years I could likely open the worst bookshop in the world with them as stock.

2·8 days agoIn school I was forced practically at gunpoint to stare at poetry and regurgitate the teacher/professor’s opinions about what it means. It killed my ability to enjoy poetry for over two decades.
Reading something that doesn’t engage with you is not helpful. Ever.

94·8 days agoI think you’ve mistakenly lost yourself on the path to the “c/stridentpolitics” group. This is “c/books”. It’s an easy mistake to make, seeing as the names are nearly identical.

1·8 days agoI know, right? It’s an amazing list!
I’m going to answer with “无”. In this context meaning that I think the question…
My question do you consider them as reading?
…is badly formulated and needs to be recast.
My suggestion for recasting your question is: “Do I care what other people consider to be reading?”
Do you derive pleasure from reading them? Does this pleasure change if other people don’t consider it reading? I submit the answers to these questions should be “yes” (otherwise why do it?) and “no” (because other people’s opinions are relevant largely to their own life only) respectively.
Enjoy what you read, however and whenever you find time to. Life has few enough opportunities for joy these days. Don’t look for more reasons to have less of it.

Enough Musk Spam@lemmy.world•DOGE Disbanded: Elon Musk’s Cost-Cutting Project Quietly Ended
1·27 days agoBut its website claims to have reached only $214 billion.
And the overwhelming amount of that was bullshit on top of everything else.
How does anybody look at “DOGE”, who ran it, what they did, and how they operated and think that any part of that was “cost cutting” in purpose? “DOGE” existed for two purposes only:
- To dismantle the agencies that threatened to expose Kaptain Ketamine’s businesses for the dangerous frauds they were.
- To collect government information on competitors to Kaptain Ketamine’s businesses for purposes of cheating the systems or blackmail or both.

7·1 month agoSurely it’s just a coincidence that the single vehicle that had Kaptain Ketamine’s fingerprints all over it from beginning to end is the single least popular and single most-recalled vehicle Tesla has ever made. This can’t be a causal link, right?

Every billionaire, no exceptions, is a net negative to society. Kaptain Ketamine is no exception.

1·2 months agoI’m approximately 99.44% positive that at no point would “Liu” be pronounced as “Lu” in any dialect of Chinese.
Seeing as they already have the perfectly cromulent “Lu” available for that sound.
Romanizations are by definition sound-based, unlike characters.
Have your +1 you hateful bastard.

So since I don’t have a Twitter account and thus aren’t beholden to their ToS, that means I can use their trademarks, logos, domain names, etc. at will? Cool!
