i think the most important part is that if they switch to linux, you are now their IT support, and they will rely on you. be patient and understanding with them, even if stuff is not necessarily broken.
casper seems to be for all ubuntu based distros, so including linux mint
if you’re not aware of that whole thing, the issue is not that mojang is banning people for using slurs, it’s that their list of bad words with way too broad, and you might get banned for saying “night” or I think even “zzzzz” or whatever things you might say as you’re going to sleep.
banning for slur, yes very good banning for a word that’s in a naughty list that’s not bad or even pretty common, that’s silly
any recent laptop (or even older stuff) would work pretty well with linux. just make sure that you can have access to the BIOS or UEFI. I personally like AMD hardware, but Intel and Nvidia work just as well.
if you can afford it, System 76, Framework, or other linux first manufacturers are nice, but otherwise any normal laptop should work.
If you’re bringing it to school, consider the weight and size, also the backpack you’ll put it in. Big screen is good, but more annoying to carry around. I have a tiny 13" that I bring between home and work, which works great, because apart from meetings, I never actually use the screen. Might consider the keyboard too, but unless you go apple, I feel like laptop keyboards are always gonna be “eh”
Guild Wars 2 works without issue, though if that’'s specifically what you want to play, Guild Wars 2 works better with a good CPU and an SSD, whereas the GPU would be good but doesn’t need to be great. That of course depends game per game, just I know that Guild Wars 2 specifically relies a lot on the CPU, and without a SSD it will stutter.
is revolt good ? I’m in no desilusion that i’d be able to make my friends move away from discord, but maybe for new communities ?
so far it’s really nice, it’s what I liked in reddit and before that forums, without being what reddit became.
the fediverse is hard though, but it kinda makes sense. I’ll see if I get more used to it
i’ve never liked the idea of having to come out of the closet. I want to be able to say “oh, my boyfriend cooked my lunch, I don’t know what spices he used, i can ask him”, without it turning into “oh i didn’t know you were gay, thanks for letting me know, so brave” or something weird. we were talking about lunch, not who i like to sleep with
