You are absolutely correct. I have no idea where all of this animosity towards stainless steel cookware is coming from. It’s an absolute workhorse and doesn’t need princess treatment like cast iron or carbon steel.

I cook vegetable dishes all the time in stainless steel. Works fine. It all comes down to technique and heat control.
When the pan heats (and expands), its microscopic gaps close up. If foods are added before this happens, it pinches and traps the food causing it to stick.

News@lemmy.world•New Zealand Covid inquiry finds vaccine mandates were ‘reasonable’
64·1 year agoIn this thread, many people making judgements based on incorrect facts and ignoring that New Zealand’s biggest city had about a years worth of strict lockdown over the 2 year period from 2020-2021. In this thread you’ll also find New Zealanders from outside of Auckland commenting about their personal experience on behalf of everyone from the country.

36·1 year agoMassive mental health impacts for one. Did you live in Auckland throughout COVID? If not then I don’t think you can comment on this.

33·1 year agoYou clearly do not live in Auckland then. The person you’re replying to is not incorrect, you were just fortunate to live in another part of the country.

32·1 year agoThe “one town” you’re referring to is Auckland, NZ’s economic center and has a third of the country’s population.
Whenever I talk about COVID lockdown with NZers from outside of Auckland they play it down because there was only a few weeks of strict lockdown at the start. However, anyone that lived in the Auckland region can tell you that the lockdowns were long, tough and plentiful. People in Auckland were still stuck in their homes celebrating birthdays alone late 2021. Eventually the government gave up when the Omicron variant exploded and a majority had been vaccinated.
I am well aware of these events. I am referring to the point about warmer atmospheres causing more clear air turbulence. I don’t believe there is conclusive evidence of this yet, though it is a logical explanation.
I agree that it sounds logical. It might even be true, just saying that it’s not conclusive.
I’ve also seen reports debunking this correlation. I don’t have a source but it may not be as cut and dry as this.

Technology@lemmy.world•Passwords have problems, but passkeys have moreEnglish
31·1 year agoPasskeys aren’t a full replacement in my opinion, which is what DHH gets wrong. It’s a secure, user-friendly alternative to password+MFA. If the device doesn’t have a passkey set up you revert to password+MFA.

11·1 year agoIt uses asymmetric cryptography. You sign a login request with the locally stored private key and the service verifies the signature with their stored public key. The PIN on your device is used to unlock access to the private key to sign the login request.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.ml•Parking minimums are systematic oppression by car lobbyists against all others forms of transport. Yeah I said it.
31·1 year agoNot as bad from my perception. Though I’m not arguing in favour of cars. I just think mopeds are a strange mobility option to adore. Good public transportation + cycling infrastructure is much more adorable. In the Netherlands, the mopeds are a menace to the safety, quiet, and air quality in cities.

Technology@lemmy.world•The Irony of 'You Wouldn't Download a Car' Making a Comeback in AI DebatesEnglish
134·1 year agoI agree. You can’t just dismiss the problem saying it’s “just data represented in vector space” and on the other hand not be able properly censor the models and require AI safety research. If you don’t know exactly what’s going on inside, you also can’t claim that copyright is not being violated.
