I second Anark’s content. Haven’t seen those two videos yet, but do feel like the focus on building a community that does good and does better seems like the way out of leftist depression (or at least to less of it)

I second Duolingo and Drops for mostly vocabulary learning, and then I’d supplement with a textbook for grammar and a more structured learning experience. I keep seeing the everything learning german book recommended, but really, just choose whatever looks reasonable and go through it doing all the exercises

That’s a very good point of course - brain drain is a problem and we shouldn’t encourage it. I suppose I’d rather propose encouraging countries to offer refugees good educations. I am explicitly talking about jobs that require training and come with an expectation of a good life - I agree that the jobs in agriculture and slaughterhouses and such are inhumane.

I don’t think we should tell people not to have children. I just think that we should stop telling them that putting more humans on this world is the moral option or their duty. I think we should at least encourage people thinking of having kids to consider the consequences that has, and then leave the choice to them.

Sure, but how likely is that? Shouldn’t we start on filling the planet up to that limit only once we have a better system, not now?

We could also stabilise pension systems by allowing in immigrants to work the jobs that aren’t getting done tight now. Skilled craftspeople are needed, and if they help us with pensions and get a better life for their families out of it, even better, right?

The gameplay of ‘It takes two’ is very fun, but the characters and the story can be infuriating. If they annoy you in the trailers or in a gameplay video, be aware that their dynamic stays like that a long time - we gave up on it after a while because of it

Since the problem of the joycons breaking down has come up a few times, I just want to mention that you can easily couple 8bit-do controllers, or presumably any others, and play with those instead. That’s likely to mean they’ll be available for a while. Not sure that you can do anything about a DS’s buttons breaking

While I’m all in favour of individual action, I think it’s very reductive to say that that will stop climate change. And even the politicians we explicitly vote for to actually do things don’t, or not enough. And it’s not like we chose to live in a world that is being destroyed by climate change, so how is it selfish if we leave behind other people who also do? They created it as much as me - barely, because none of us have any real recourse to deal with it.

I feel like this is getting down voted mostly for the picture. TL;DR: Young people might not have wisdom/experience, but they have a clearer view if morality, and in their protests they focus on the real issues, while the media focus on their protests rather than the issues they protest

I fully agree. I just think that the economic situations have been getting more and more precarious for lots of people, meaning getting to a modest amount moves further into the distance. I truly believe that we’ll have more people championing climate change issues if we put them in positions where fulfilling their own needs is easier

By changing the system to give them better options and easier choices. It depends on why they don’t care or know, of course. I’m assuming a low SES here, where there’s little energy to inform yourself or change, different strategies should be used for other groups, like more education in schools, etc

You’re right, that is also an effort, though I think it’s one that our current situations make easier, given the amount of free information and the ubiquity of smartphones. Still, I see your point.
