This is cool! I’ve often been to the Fesival of Lights in New Plymouth, which is similar. Everyone loves a cool light show.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why does most of the world use WhatsApp as their messaging app rather than RCS/SMS?
2·10 days agoWow, after the move to messaging apps pretty much any general phone plan here has free unlimited SMS, the different plans are about the data included. Even the $8NZD ($4.60USD) per month 150MB data plan comes with unlimited SMS.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What career do you think the person who's seen the most faces has?
6·10 days agoWould that count? Most of those faces are like a single pixel of detail from the stage.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why does most of the world use WhatsApp as their messaging app rather than RCS/SMS?
8·10 days agoThis is my understanding. WhatsApp took off at a time and in places where SMS was expensive. Because WhatsApp used data, they could keep data usage low and allow people to message almost for free.
Oh damn, I hope the blast radius wasn’t too wide?
I’m currently in government where we aren’t allowed to run our own stuff, everything new has to be cloud services.
Yeah true. Can’t give you a list to pick from I guess haha, just annoying that I know the countries but sometimes can’t spell them!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Any site that lists games that were never available as digital releases?
4·14 days agoYeah I guess they have limited resources, and their aim is to have the older games work on modern PCs. Not sure when you were doing this but I can absolutely understand that Windows 7 compatibility isn’t a focus for them in 2026 since MS support ended in 2023.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Any site that lists games that were never available as digital releases?
7·14 days agoA significant number of games released before 2005 had digital releases later. It’s basically GOGs whole thing.

Damn I didn’t realise it was timed. Trying to do all that typing on mobile was a bit slow, I only got to 80 before running out of time, and still hadn’t done Europe and only started on Africa.
A bit rough they make you spell them all!

1·14 days agoWell if seldom seen is the criteria, why not Fairy tern? only 40 left, and they are sea birds, so not many chances to see one!

Aotearoa / New Zealand@lemmy.nz•Lemmy.nz Census 2026 (FINAL REMINDER, open to all)
1·14 days agoOh no! Quick, go do it now!
I posted another reminder post about 10 days back, and got another bunch of responses. I think we are at a similar level of LemmyNZ users as previous years now. I actually closed the survey earlier today, it’s been about a week since the last response. So now the work begins!
I live in a country with free healthcare and private health insurance. I even have private health insurance. But I have it through a nun-profit organisation that pays out ninety-something cents in claims for every dollar of premiums paid. So I’m ok with it.

Aotearoa / New Zealand@lemmy.nz•Party drug MDMA gets official approval as PTSD treatment
3·16 days agoHaha I was also a little surprised. But I’ve also seen unfunded drugs and that price isn’t unusual. But surely MDMA isn’t under patent.
I guess it’s because it cost these two docs a fortune to get it approved?

Census analysis is coming along great. Scripts I built last year have really helped with reducing the effort this year. Hopefully will be ready for a post next week.
Other than that I have been trying to work out why Lemmy emails stopped sending a few days ago, though we have them up and running now. It’s all a bit weird 🤷
And I’ve been playing with PieFed, so many options, have been getting a bit lost as there isn’t a lot of user documentation right now.
