Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•BMW struggles to keep up with demand as new iX3 sells out through 2026
4·3 days agoI cite WLTP because it is a standardised way to test and compare range. It’s not perfect, but it allows us to compare one vehicle to another. None of these cars will achieve WLTP in winter nor at high speed.
Also - the model Y is arguably newer than the Q6 - Juniper came out less than a year ago here!
I am in the same position as you though - generally charging stops on long drives are now driven by bladders rather than batteries.

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•BMW struggles to keep up with demand as new iX3 sells out through 2026
8·3 days agoThey deserve the success, and honestly they’ve launched with perhaps too low price* for the specs. Example comparing price, WLTP range, 10-80% charge time.
- BMW ix3 50xdrive. £58.7k. 500 mile range. 21mins.
- Volvo EX60 P12 AWD. £64.8k. 503 mile range. 20mins.
- Mercedes GLC 400 4Matic. £60.3k. 444 mile range. 22mins.
- Audi Q6 etron Quattro. £69k. 388 mile range. 23mins.
- Telsa Model Y Premium AWD. £52k. 373 mile range. 29mins
Very exciting to see the this range of strong EVs (though the Audi is lagging a little). The GLC, Q6 and EX60 have great towing capacity as well (2400kg vs 2000kg for ix3 and only 1600kg for model Y).
*they are increasing the price in some areas, see here: https://www.electrive.com/2026/02/02/bmw-raises-price-of-ix3-50-xdrive-by-2000-euros/

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•25 EVs Were Range-Tested In Extreme Cold. It Didn’t Go Well
4·7 days agoI disagree with “it didn’t go well”. I’d say it went pretty well. Most cars fell 30-40% short of their WLTP ratings. They probably fall 10-20% short of that in summer anyway. And -30DegC is a rare temperature where I live (Scotland). We will see -10DegC occasionally, and it would be pretty bad luck for that to coincide with a long road trip.
As for the winners in this test: seems like the Koreans (EV4, Inster, Musso, not so much Ioniq 9) and MG (6S and IM6) did best. Which is a surprising result for me. It’s the first time I’ve heard of Voyah Courage but it did well also.
The losers? Suzuki, Opel, Volvo and Lucid seemed to fair particularly poorly. The rest is all mid pack.

Technology@lemmy.world•Tesla profit tanked 46% in 2025 | TechCrunchEnglish
23·8 days ago$TSLA fanbois always claim that only Tesla can sell EVs at a profit / with a huge margin (something like $10k per vehicle). Would be interested to see what kind of margin per vehicle they are making now that the tax credits are removed and it appears that much of the profit came from energy storage.

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Demand For Electric Vehicles From BMW & Mercedes Higher Than Expected
6·8 days agoBMW, Mercedes and Volvo are (rightfully) getting a lot of praise for their latest offerings.
Can’t help but feel a bit bad for Audi. The Q6 / A6 were maybe 1.5 years early and can’t quite match the latest offerings in terms of battery size or SDV. And price. Still, very good cars on the used market

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Tesla kills Models S and X to build humanoid robots instead
20·8 days agoNot surprising that they are killing S and X
S, X and CT sold a combined 50,850 globally in 2025, down from 85,133 the year before. Actually 2025 was the lowest number since 2021.
Only surprising part is that they are not killing the CT and continue to promise the roadster.
So no longer S3XY as originally planned. Now 3YCTR? R3CTY?

27·3 days agoMisleading. This was for one month of data (not even a quarter) and fails to mention that the most popular fuel type in that month of sales was petrol hybrids. EVs outsold pure petrol cars only, because they are becoming rare. EVs did not oursell cars which get their energy from petrol.

2·16 days agoSame as in UK for pricing vs Model 3:
Kia
- £33,195: EV4 58.3kWh
- £36,195: EV4 81.4kWh
Tesla
- £37,990: M3 Standard RWD 60kWh
- £44,990: M3 Premium RWD 79kWh
- £49,990: M3 Premium AWD 79kWh

With the whole Greenland thing, I can imagine that people in Denmark especially would be against buying a car from an American brand
