englislanguage@lemmy.sdf.orgto World News@lemmy.world•The left-wing French coalition hoping to introduce 90% tax on richEnglish13·1 year agoActually, 90% income tax for the top incomes was common in western countries in the 50s.
englislanguage@lemmy.sdf.orgto World News@lemmy.world•The left-wing French coalition hoping to introduce 90% tax on richEnglish7·1 year ago400’000€ yearly income is not middle class. It is roughly the top 1%. Are you maybe mistaking property for income?
I would have preferred taxing on property instead of income, but as long as interests and profits and other benefits are part of income, it sounds reasonable to me.

You dehumanize people for existing in a social construct they have not created and most of them have not chosen and some of them have no option of leaving. You write as if you want to protect people from hatred or atrocities, yet your wording is nothing but fuelling more hatred and atrocities.
Most people living there (with or without Israeli passport) do not want to be complicit in the project you are describing, so clearly no. What you are describing is the agenda of a minority.

The other hobbyist’s tanks you mentioned are too. Just because there is more of the same (minus razor sharp edges and rust), doesn’t mean it isn’t sh*t too.
englislanguage@lemmy.sdf.orgto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is End of Life of an OS bad for an average user?65·1 year agoIt seems like part of your thinking is: Why would a criminal invest effort to attack an average John Doe? The answer is: With a popular (widely used) operating system, the effort goes close to zero. Attacks can be automated, so they will be. Also, even if they are not interested in your data, they will be interested in other benefits they gain from controlling your computer:
- Computing power e.g. for Bitcoin mining
- Your internet connection to attack other computers via yours, taking your computer to hide their identity and location. This is commonly done as DDOS for blackmailing businesses or silencing websites. Or for sending spam or fake reviews.
- Your identity. If they can get your name, they can order stuff on your name, which will get you a bad credit score or even criminal charges (identity theft)
- Access to your local network. Many devices are easier to hack via local network access than from the internet. A criminal who took control of your computer could for example take over your “smart” appliances or WiFi printer.
englislanguage@lemmy.sdf.orgto linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Windows updating just before thesis defense1·1 year agoIf you put microphones into the table, the audio will be horrible, catching up any surface acoustic waves from any noise on the table. Like if someone touches the table anywhere, this will be caught by the microphone. If someone puts down a hard item to the table anywhere (e.g. a pen, fingertips with fingernails, smartphone) you won’t be able to hear anyone in the room through microphones due to the transient noise.
englislanguage@lemmy.sdf.orgto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is the absolute max level of ear protection you can get?2·1 year agoThis is partially correct, partially wrong.
As many have commented, flipping a signal by 180° cancels it out. However, this is only true for static noise though. Transient noise cannot be canceled out completely, because you would need to see into the future to know which signals to play to cancel out the noise.
The ANC headphones I own mainly cancel noise through passive shielding of the ears. The “active” noise canceling feature is not contributing a lot.
Are you sure? Doesn’t the “smart edison bulb” design make it harder to dissipate heat to the casing, therefore making the LEDs get hotter compared to PCBs with LEDs surface mounted on them?
Anyway, if you want your
light bulbsany technology to last long, don’t buy the “smart” variant. “Smart” usually means more components and/or more dependencies on interfaces, and more complexity, so a higher chance to fail.
