Linux@lemmy.world•Distro Recommendation Discussion (Not a 'What Distro Should I Use?' Post)English
1·46 minutes agoPop!_OS is Wayland first if you use the new COSMIC DE. I know you’re not recommending that over KDE but I think it’s a valid option for power users.
In general I’ve been recommending Bazzite to noobs. Most average users will strictly benefit from using an immutable distro in general. If they brick it they can almost always simply rollback to their previous image, no backup necessary.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•When Xfinity has an outage, I don’t pay for those days. The government’s been shut down for 39 days so can I pay 39 days less in taxes?
4·53 minutes agoIf they keep it shut down I suspect individual states will split off as their own nations eventually.

6·1 hour agoDid I not say “the neighbor’s 2 boxes”?
Did you misread my comment?
An example of what I meant was: original wisher (OW) gets a quarter. 1 second later, the neighbor (N) gets 2 quarters, 1 in each box. 1 second after that, OW gets 2 quarters in their one box, then one second after that, N gets 2 quarters in each of their 2 boxes (4 total), and so on.
And yeah, both of them would be crushed. Infinite anything is a planet and eventually universe-destroying prospect.

2·1 hour agoIt does duplicate the money across the neighbor’s 2 boxes, hence infinite money.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Logan Roy is objectively and factually a better father than Clark Kent
31·3 days agoHey, so, I know those words sound really satisfying in that combination, but “objectively and factually” there’s no single system of morality nor metric of quality for fatherhood that anyone could judge by, so “objectively and factually”, your thesis is an opinion statement and by its very nature cannot be a fact or objective truth.
He was a sorcerer who was well spoken so he came across as wizard-y.
Yeah, the player got kicked out for a drug problem, I heard.

2·3 days agoAnd here I thought that all living things are averse to death merely due to natural selection, more so than any specifically human psychological phenomena.
Well yeah, they exist at the extremes of society and push almost exclusively for their own further empowerment.

3·4 days agoI suspect you could get the price on something like this down to maybe $100-$150. Basically a small low-power Intel box with an SSD and at least 8G of RAM could handle all of these services.
The hard part would be pre-configuring each of them and building/adapting software to make this kind of stuff easy for end users.
Meh, Great Cleave combined with improved critical and some other stuff could lead to some crazy slot machine combo turns
Yes, but also Fighters are just way cooler in either edition of Pathfinder

Fladder seems kind of nice, for instance. They release both AppImage and Flatpak versions on their github releases.

Actually Infuriating@lemmy.world•The USDA website currently. Is this not a blatant violation of the Hatch Act?
3·8 days agoI don’t care about the document. If anything I’d say it’s fatally flawed in a couple key ways. Not as bad the OG articles of confederation, but pretty bad.
What I care about is making a government that actually serves the majority of the people and represents their interests against the disproportionately powerful

Politics@beehaw.org•Republicans push back against Trump’s call to end the Senate filibuster
3·8 days agoHave you noticed how we don’t have many (almost any) new laws passing? The filibuster is why. The house passes all kinds of vile bills and the senate promptly lets the bills die

1·9 days agoI’m not convinced that the US constitution/government will outlive me, at this point.
It wouldn’t be the US government (at least not the as we know it) holding people accountable in my imaginary scenario.
