You can also try Davinci Resolve. It works best in docker and unless you are doing high end editing, the free version works extremely well so makes it worth trying.

Downloaded the app for iOS to try it and would say it wasn’t ready for mainstream. It looks very similar to discord but it just consistently would crash or send me back to the website in order to get anything done. Even the main channel for Revolt would hang and not load properly. That and iOS is on TestFlight… not gonna work well for non tech enthusiasts who know how about it. That
I have a small server on Discord and would love to move it. But the people on it aren’t super tech savvy and the replacement will need to work. Plus, I have less desire to go from one centralized service to another, especially when the backup doesn’t work well. Wish Element would get it together with the phone app and make spaces appear as they do on the computer. That and stable call/video channels.
It would be nice to see a capable app built on matrix platform. Or just another capable platform that has a well working app. Just my two cents.

They do an alright job for fingerprinting and do well with ads. Just make sure to go into Adblock plus and disable “allowable ads” so that none break through.
I’d say the better iOS browser is Snow Haze. Unfortunately iOS blocks a lot of the privacy stuff to conform with its guidelines so the locked down Firefox derivatives aren’t as strong as on android. Snow haze is the only privacy browser I know that works within the iOS confines and maximizes it. They also have an extension for Firefox if you want to go that route.
I stopped using chromium based browsers, so others may have recs on those.

Holler Pixie@lemm.eeto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Somebody created a Facebook like UI for Friendica called Bookface (expand for pics&more info)English1·5 months agoMost people like to have the phone app for socials, makes it easy to browse or keep on top of posts more convenient. Honestly, I can’t really think of any social media platform that isn’t app based for this very reason. Goals for success: make it easy to use, engaging, and have an app with a good UI.
Holler Pixie@lemm.eeto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Somebody created a Facebook like UI for Friendica called Bookface (expand for pics&more info)English3·5 months agoJust don’t follow much on Friendica due to a lack of iOS app. And only had one for android. For it to really take off, we need app development as well. This is a great step though as an easy UI will promote use.

Have used graphene for a long time and the last phone completely avoided using any G products (not even sandboxed) but still worry about the hardware, especially with the new AI chips. Can’t imagine that the ability to fingerprint using their hardware isn’t available.
So I vacillate between Fairphone/PinePhone with Linux or just anonymity through the masses with iOS. It sucks, the whole turn. Either get a fully functional smartphone and pick your poison or use a limited or dumb phone but know your smart TV/car/computer/etc will still be there for vulnerability.
Ah, I get what you mean now by inflammatory statements (after a thorough reread) and why there may have been downvotes from that. Though interestingly, I didn’t feel my comment was very inflammatory and it got downvoted too. 😅
I was looking at it more from just a standpoint of systemd itself, and honestly, just looking at it from the standpoint that fedora and rhel can tend to be industry leaders for change. Honestly, if RHEL and Ubuntu together made some sort of meaningful change from a system perspective, I think we would see that move downstream.
As far as my use of the term bloated, I’m looking at it strictly from a standpoint for the amount of code that goes into the system. The more code you have, the more entries for security risks. I’m not saying that there’s anything that’s particularly better out there right now, but I think we should always be looking for alternatives regardless of what your views are for the people that created the code. KISS philosophy, basically. That and being open to change to avoid stagnation.
Not sure why the downvotes on this? Systemd is bloated and known to present security risks. Don’t see why looking at alternatives wouldn’t be seen as positive growth.
Holler Pixie@lemm.eeto Android@lemdro.id•Android 15 sideloading restrictions are a raw deal for usersEnglish19·5 months agoThis is why I decided to not use Google services this Graphene install. I have zero doubt Google is going to try and lock down the ability to use anything outside of the PlayStore in an IOS type move. Just hope a better Linux based phone gets done quickly because I’m not sure how many iterations of alternate Android OS generations will be able to exist as they lock things down.

However this turns out, not a huge fan of .world removing it, similar to the centralized sites you’d expect to suppress stuff. Stopped following their news thread for this reason as I don’t need my information moderated- can do that myself.
Idk if it’s company dependent but mine would not. Ended up getting a second work phone because of it.
