No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is likely to happen when/if trump dies?English
2·6 hours agoYeah, I think that’s the same thing, but coming at it from a different direction
Only when they’re spelling it phonetically
I’ve only seen it spelled that way in the UK. Everywhere else, it’s PEDO.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is likely to happen when/if trump dies?English
111·7 hours agoI heard something very fascinating on pod save America this morning: the Maga cultists don’t follow Trump because they worship Trump the person, they follow Trump because they believe the same things that Trump believes. If some other leader spewed the exact same things, they would follow that person, too. that’s not JD Vance. That’s not anyone right now. Everyone in the Trump administration is very much after their own interests and only kiss Trump‘s ass because they’re afraid of the consequences if they don’t.
Really, this is a huge problem for the Republican Party, as, post-Trump, all of the Maga cultists would probably break away from the Republican Party and possibly dissolve into a disorganized slurry of right wing crazy. This would leave the Republican Party massively weekend as a result, and most of the independents that voted for Trump in the last election would likely defect to the Democrats.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Most Americans would rather live in a big house in a car-based community than a small house in a walking-based community.English
43·11 hours agoI’ve had it both ways, and I was never happier than when I was living in Brooklyn, with access to excellent public transit and lots of walking-distance community support.
And, believe it, or not, my cost of living was half the price to living in Orlando, with a car. Also, I made more when living in Brooklyn. also, Orlando sucks.
It just looks like he’s walking forward/up stairs, and the person on the left is composited behind him from a different photo. It looks like that because the lighting is different on him and on the person on the left.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•In the age of electronics, when i go to vote can I request a paper ballot instead of a machine?English
10·14 hours agoIt really is. Mail in ballots are very difficult to falsify because they leave a paper trail. That’s why Republicans keep trying to convince everyone that they’re so “fraudulent“. Because they’re not, and Republicans are liars.

4·15 hours agoIf you want a paper ballot, request a mail in ballot. All mail in ballots are, by necessity, paper ballot.

38·1 day agoDriving While Intoxicated. It’s the same as a DUI, it’s just that, in some jurisdictions, the law is written with a different vernacular to address the possibility that the person is driving while intoxicated on drugs instead of alcohol (or a combination of the two).
Edit: originally, DUI laws were drafted in the 50s and 60s to address being under the influence of alcohol. Legally, this was a pretty narrow and limiting definition when challenged in court. Eventually, the laws were expanded to specifically address a state of impairment caused by intoxication by alcohol or anything else that could impair driving, like drugs. Severe mental illness has also been prosecuted as DWI in extreme cases. This made it much easier to uphold in court.
