They don’t all feel like this. I try to keep a feeler out for when I try to socialize and I don’t feel like this. But most of the time for me, it does feel like this. In spite of that, I think I actually lean a little bit more towards being extroverted rather than introverted (in that I gain my energy from social interaction) but most social interactions feel this way because I’m either interacting with people who obviously dislike me and just being in the presence of someone who clearly doesn’t want me around is draining, or it’s a new person and I’m trying to actively get a sense of whether or not they’re someone who I can open up to both in terms of opinions and in terms of autistic traits. It’s honestly a bit miserable, I wish I was more introverted, but I’m not and that’s just how it is.
Yeah, sometimes I still lurk on reddit and when I go to certain subs I’ll see a lot of autistic people who really buy into that. I’ve seen other autistic people post about how they’re either ‘narc magnets’ or ‘narc repellent’. It frustrates me to see ableism against people who are perceived as ‘deserving’ it when we as autistic people already face so much ableism from neurotypical people. I mean, I understand on one hand feeling hurt when you’re a victim of abuse and trying to make sense of it, but the way to do that isn’t through…the whole ‘narc abuse’ pop psychology BS. Back when I had an account I would try to speak out against it, but reddit is getting worse and worse with its data collection, so I’m back to lurking only (using redlib). At least I generally see other people doing it as well, even if they’re not always well-received. So hopefully, in time, it’ll change, but I don’t know.
