I haven’t had a chance to watch the race yet and had even unsubscribed from every F1 feed I follow so as not to spoil it… only to see the results in a music thread the moment I opened Lemmy. Well, at least I’m happy for Carlos

“Can I give you a hand?”
You take a break from roasting marshmallows over a camp fire to go solve the deepest mysteries of the universe.
Well deserved too - getting the jump on Max at the start of the race and fending off Lewis on a slower tire at the end can’t have been easy even with the car’s improved pace.
I’m not on “Lenny” terms yet, I still refer to him as “Leonard”.
As for Lemmy, it’s almost completely replaced Reddit for me. Except for the times I search for something and the best result is a Reddit thread from 3 years ago
Some quick googling and it seems the crossing length to the island is similar to the crossing of the English Channel (40 - 50km). The Channel tunnel depth is about 115m below sea level, whereas the Straight of Georgia has an average depth of ~150m per Wikipedia. The Channel tunnel cost about 21 billion pounds (~$36billion CAD in 2021 dollars) to complete, so I’d imagine a tunnel to Vancouver Island would be at least the same if not more. Doesn’t seem worth it for the size of the population crossing even if it were possible.
Boost is currently up, but they announced they’d be shutting down by tomorrow anyways. At least Lemmy / Kbin seem to be decent replacements so far. Here’s hoping they continue to fill with lots of new interesting discussions and then I’ll be done with Reddit for good.
