Can only speak for myself, but I’d love the idea. I think our french and some of our Belgian neighbours ( :) ) would be ecstatic to have more french speakers in the EU.

From a cultural point of view, especially Québec I experienced to be very similar to Europe.

I myself could see myself living and working in Canada for a few years if this would ever come to pass. I stayed in Toronto and Montreal for a while and loved everything about it. Currently there’s too much red tape in my field of work however to consider the move, whereas I’ve lived and worked in several EU countries already.

This is not an accident. They did not discover, that their AI could produce child pornography and alter images of other people that is unwanted and or harmful to them and then made steps to stop that. They now make it so that this it complies in "jurisdictions where such content is illegal (as long as the user does not use a VPN that is).

What awful people. I hope the EU and UK sue them for as much as legally possible.

There will always be anonymous alternatives. That’s the nature of the Internet. With a platform like that, I would probably take views expressed there as a likely genuine statement, whereas I’ll treat statements on anonymous platforms as likely bot / malicious actor etc. activity. I think we are a bit naive to the fact how much outside influence and interference there is on public platforms.

Contrarian opinion here but I’m all for I’d verification in a social network and things. All other platforms like X, Facebook,… have gone downhill with bots and paid foreign actors. The same will happen to mastodon, lemmy, bluesky,… as well when they get bigger.

A hard to swallow pill but either we go down this way or we’ll continue to open Putin, Trump,… the back door to our democracy. Let’s hope it succeeds.
