66·13 days agoYeah, their earning report was really something. Raising prices due to “shortages” while reporting a record margin on their products.
(and let’s be honest here: The recent price increases do kind of kill the product line. Most people are better off with a cheap, maybe used thinclient for their homeserver needs. They are not those cheap thingies you can tinker around with anymore)

Europe@feddit.org•Europe paid $113.5 billion more for energy since the Iran war, and gained not one extra barrelEnglish
2·14 days agoTrue, but America wouldn’t have started this war if there were going to be consequences for doing so
This assumes a sane and rational actor in the white house and we do not have that. I kind of agree with some of your analysis, but I really doubt that any of that would really have had a lasting effect on that totally insane shitshow currently happening in the USA. They didn’t even seem to have listened to their own war planners who have planned scenarios for Iran for decades.

Europe@feddit.org•Europe paid $113.5 billion more for energy since the Iran war, and gained not one extra barrelEnglish
2·14 days agobut basically European sanctions, arms sales and diplomacy have been crucial in getting Iran into a position where its only recourse to an American attack is closing Hormuz
Just to reply to that: Even if the Europeans didn’t sanction Iran and were providing them with weapons: The USA is the worlds biggest and strongest military and there is no chance that Iran would not have to use their biggest geopolitical leverage against them in a war. Do not try to blame the EU for Trump starting a war.

Europe@feddit.org•Visa and Mastercard handle nearly half of Europe's card payments. The digital euro aims to change that | FortuneEnglish
7·15 days agoWie really need some european sovereignity law: If you are providing critical infrastructure like such a payment system, you need to decouple your business from geopolitical risks. If Visa and Mastercard want to provide payment solutions, they need to restructure so that no US president can sanction EU individuals or shut down everything.

Technology@lemmy.world•Reddit imposes new restrictions on Old Reddit - EngadgetEnglish
10·16 days agoIt’s optimized for pictures and videos and ads. The old layout works better for text and links and it shows. Old Reddit was perfect for quickly checking a niche subreddit - just skim the 20 or 30 headlines, open interesting links in a new tab or check some comments and you are informed about what is currently happening in that niche. Maybe you also read some text posts with questions. New Reddit is optimized to keep you scrolling and to put an endless stream of ragebait in your face.

Europe@feddit.org•France: Hundreds of students arrested as protests over school conditions escalateEnglish
91·16 days agoWhat a bad reporting - they are mostly writing about the violent clashes and are quoting politicans who are saying that violence is bad. But they are not writing about the conditions at the schools, the complaints of the students and so on.

Europe@feddit.org•EU must ‘rearm more quickly’ and Russia ‘not interested in peace at all,’ Kallas says – Europe liveEnglish
12·19 days agoI mean…Russia is interested in peace. Everyone is always interested in peace. Countries don’t take war purely for love of war. The difference between parties in a conflict is the terms on which that peace is desired; war is a tool to coerce another into accepting one’s desired terms.
That is a really stupid thing to say. Russia is maybe interested in everybody elses surrender, but they are not interested in peace. As we all know, because they’ve started this war.

Technology@lemmy.world•Congress Wants You To Pay $130 A Year Just To Drive An Electric CarEnglish
15·5 months agoHow are you Americans doing car registration? As someone from another country it sounds a little bit crazy to not have a national car registry. Is this on the state level? And if someone from Texas is caught speeding in Arizona, police has to as there for the ID of the owner? Or is there no registry at all? And why shouldn’t states be able to collect a tax from their citizens?

Technology@lemmy.world•Driver intentionally drove Cybertruck into lake to use vehicle’s ‘Wade Mode,’ police sayEnglish
25·5 months agoYes, you are looking at a social media post of the CEO of Tesla promoting the Cybertruck as being waterproof and being able to serve briefly as a boat, so that it can cross rivers, lakes & even seas that aren’t too choppy. So it’s not too stupid for someone to believe that the “wade mode” in his Cybertruck is allowing him to cross a lake

Europe@feddit.org•European Union to ban cash payments above €10,000English
41·5 months agoMoney is the universal way to exchange goods or services. Yes, you may be getting paid for your tax-doging renovation in gold, bitcoin or artworks. You may accept Monero or Roblox gift cards as a payment for drugs. And you might find other people who will accept Roblox gift cards, but that doesn’t scale.
But then you have 10.000€+ in Bitcoin or gold and need to exchange it into real money in order to use it. Your local supermarket will not accept gold. You may be able to buy a house with Bitcoin, but the seller also needs to launder this money into something usable.
The neat thing here is that this might work for some small drug dealer or some craftsman doing a few things off the book. But if you’re doing a lager scale operation, that will get harder

I think that such projects are the best use for such models. If the code is doing something wrong or has errors, the worst scenario is that you are not getting notified when your bins were emptied. That’s … ok?
