That original post definitely ended up bridgaded, I just don’t think their votes in your defederation post was the same thing.

A server that defederates does not receive any updates from the other one, including upvotes and comments.
I think for it to be brigading would require a planned response, people organically reading and responding to comments is not brigading, even if the people from the same instance happen to think the same way (not surprisingly, in this case).
The real solution is local-only communities, although they are also free to join this instance as there are no rules about political beliefs.
I’d kind of prefer if we could stop talking about them at some point soon. It seems to be unfortunately the most excitement that’s ever happened here and that seems bad.
Your instance is federated with them fam.
Definitely the place for this. Holy cow.
I hope she is doing okay. I have been very critical of this community, here and in other threads, but I want to make it clear that I have not had anything but respect for her and I know none of this was intended or deserved. She didn’t fan the flames. I have been very disappointed some of the users here who went out of their way to do so, and were much more interested in fighting tankies than just… not.
Lot of people said they threw off the vibe here. It seems like a lot of people here are perfectly capable of doing that themselves. I moved here because it was a small little friendly place with chill management who did what needed done but wasn’t heavy handed. I appreciate that she tried to maintain that even when people wanted a war.
Certainly a vibe
One of the reasons I ended up here was because Beehaw did just that.
Yes please on integrated vertical tabs and tab groups, and not the crappy sidebar.
You can move windows by holding the meta key. They got rid of the space between extensions and the url bar but that area is also draggable.
Unsurprisingly, California and other western states have a lot of information available about creating a defensible space and home hardening, if it’s something someone wanted to do elsewhere.
The best I’ve seen include a transcript, even better when it is clickable and updated the position of the video. Pure video isn’t great, lots of wasted time. Pure text is better, but also takes a lot of attention and focus. For very in depth information text can’t be beat though, unless they are making a ton of separate videos which also gets cumbersome.
It didn’t help that the initial user thread about defederation, opened by someone who didn’t like their communities showing up in the All feed as if that is anything but expected, compared them to The_Donald right off the bat (and then remained one of the most vocal and prolific posters on this subject ever since). Prior to that opening salvo, their involvement here had been about 0% and primed the fuse for escalation.
But yeah, poor us.
I don’t even particularly like them, but the response over here had plenty of bad faith “she turned me into a newt!” vibes that were pretty uncool, especially from a few flame-stokers including that initial poster, and another who posted the same screenshot a half dozen times to represent what all of “them” think. It’s interesting to watch in real time how easy it is to decide who “they” are and what “they” think versus what “we” think, especially from a real-life community that often suffers gross generalization about what “they” are like when any individual member acts badly in larger society.
I haven’t heard a truly loud motorcycle in a very long time, but just today some old guy drives this huge hog up the street and you can hear it coming from a mile away.
FYI on CUPS, Apple hired the dev and bought the code in 2007. He left Apple in 2019 and actually forked CUPS. My system it is running OpenPrinting CUPS and not the Apple one. It is still nice that they share its code it just got a little more complicated in the past few years.
Your instance won’t be affected, except hexbear / blahaj folks won’t see each other.
Aww, but then I couldn’t see your future antics.
Good for them. Amateur hour over here.
Read the hexbear post in the OP, they explain it pretty well.
I think a lot of younger people are unaware the US bombed the only baby formula factory in Iraq and claimed it was a chemical weapons factory (it wasn’t), I think many Americans in general are unaware the bombing of the Amiriyah shelter that killed between 400 and 1500 sleeping civilians, mainly women and children, who were incinerated or boiled alive, because of an antenna 300 yards away. BBC journalist John Simpson’s description of the aftermath would make anybody retch.
