Canada@lemmy.ca•Critics slam Tim Hortons Harry Potter promotion as un-Canadian, anti-trans (CBC)
2·7 days agoWhat does the 2S stand for?
You should look up “first look best man pranks” on YouTube.
This one is my personal fav and I do believe it was the one that started the trend too.
Very true, lol! A little credit to our forefathers is in order!
Danish: Lars Tyndskids marker
Lars - being a name, Tyndskid - being running shits, marker - being fields
Lars Running Shits’ fields.
It is easy to see which countries have poetic mindsets and which have been shaped by sloppy drunks.
as someone who has visited one of the hottest countries on Earth, yeah… 30C in countries like that, is considered chilly. There were a couple of days in a row where the temp reached 50 and kept crawling. My Scandinavian ass was not ready.
I grew up with a TV program that was hosted by a black woman and a gay man - its called Bullerfnis. I never thought about the fact that she was darker. I also went to school with kids who were mixed and had a black parent, but I didn’t think about it.
One of my classmates from first to fourth grade was half black. The only thing I considered about her was that I thought it was really cool that she got to go to Brazil sometimes to meet her extended family. She gave me some stickers after one of her trips, with cartoon characters from a Brazilian show and I still have them to this day. I treasured them because they came from the other side of the world. I don’t even know why she gave them to me. We weren’t super close friends, but we did play together sometimes. Her dad made a traditional Brazilian confectionary for us one time and I thought it was super weird because I had never tasted anything like it before. It wasn’t bad, just different.
I think I was 6 years old when I first realized that black people look different from me, lol. There was a parent who came to school one day and he wore dreadlocks and had very colorful clothes from his culture, so he stuck out a bit and that was when in my brain was like “wait, some people are dark?”
Needless to say, I am a bit slow on the uptake sometimes.

Europe@feddit.org•Vote for the design of future Euro banknotesEnglish
1·12 days agoAye, I can do that.
Granted, it’s a bit of a silly issue for us Danes because we really, really, REALLY like our currency which is why we voted no to the Euro back in the day.
I understand that people in some countries don’t really get countries like ours and our love for our royal family, but we were very attached to our former queen’s face on our coins 😆 now we have a king and her face is slowly being replaced with his so maybe we will be more agreeable when it comes to switching to Euros now, lol. He’s not a bad king, but he is no Daisy. She ruled for 52 years and is the longest reigning monarch in our history and she was and is very beloved.

5·12 days agoI am kind of in love with F and H.
F because it’s the only design that really tries to be differnet, fun and daring. I love the color combinations and how expressive they are. I am aware that this probably isn’t going to be the one that’s picked, but man, would it be cool it this was what the Euro looked like in the future.

H because they are, in my opinion the prettiest animal notes. Again, lively colors that are combines beautifully, and I like that they are horizontal. The tenner with the kingfisher is so pretty, I would frame it and put it on a wall.

I’m not voting, though, because I’m Danish and we still use our own currency. We probably will make the shift to Euroes someday, but until then, I don’t feel it’s appropriate for me to vote for the design of a currency that isn’t used in my country.

Bro, wtf… that’s gotta be a typo.
Trump threatened greenland, had all the tech bros at his inauguration and one of them was high on ketamine and heiling, so I figured it was time to leave as many American social media platforms as possible.
The only one I still use is youtube and that’s in a logged out state and in a browser.
Can’t say I miss Facebook, Instagram and reddit. It’s been over a year and I barely think about it nowadays.
I have my issues with Lemmy, but you can filter out most of the bs so at this point it’s mostly memes, animal photography and other wholesome stuff that’s left in my feed. Life is good.
JFC, I thought that the people of Lemmy were smarter than this.
You thot wrong.
Be my boyfriend, attempting to watch a movie with me. Me doing my best to not spend the entire time babbling about the book it was based on, the behind the scenes details that are so important, yo, and me explaining worldbuilding if there is any because boyfriend needs to know what that yellow flower embroidered on someone’s shirt means and how the seamstress used special silk from some remote place in x country to stay true to the themes in the book.
He prefers to watch movies with me that I haven’t seen before nor know anything about beforehand.
Whomever drew this, is a master at dynamics and comedic timing. I fucking love the energy in every line and every panel.
When my math teacher in third grade called a meeting with me and my parents to scold me for drawing in my math book instead of filling in the answers to the math problems and I continued to draw my little animals, anyways.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•YouTuber Reckless Ben had his entire Google account subpoenaed in LEGO investigation
5·26 days agoI genuinely think this guy was born without fear. Like it simply doesn’t function in his brain. The more into his past you dig, the more you realize that him calling himself Reckless Ben is not a joke. We are all lucky that he is using his fearlessness for good. To him, this entire thing is just an interesting experience or however he phrased it. I can’t help, but admire him.
We are in the process of turning our garden into one of those meadows… granted, it’s a teeny tiny meadow, but so far, the bees are pretty happy with it. When we go to plant stores, we look at the flowers the bees pick themselves and buy those. It’ll be a paradise someday. Too many awesome flowers to choose from. And holy canoli do bees LOVE lavender. O.O

Yes and no. I became very motivated for a few years to better myself in some areas of my life where I felt I sucked. Some of these improvements have stood the test of time, but most haven’t. In some ways you revert back to habits and old insecurities and anxieties after awhile. You start worrying about all the mundane, stupid shit again, like money and politics and what other people think about you, even though none of it matters.
But at the same time, at least in my experience, it also helped me appreciate life and feeling more connected with the world.
My realizations came first in the form of an existential panic attack where I realized that absolutely nothing that happens on planet Earth matters. None of it. Nothing matters. At all. Even the all encompassing concepts of life and death are entirely meaningless when you zoom out. It is trippy to realize, truly realize, just how meaningless we are. At the same time it is also freeing. At least it was for me when I came out of the panic attack. Felt like my brain had been rewired at bit.
Then a year later I had a dream which touched on the same topic, but from a more positive perspective. In my dream I was dying and I went around and thanked every person, good or bad, who had ever affected my life in any way. I was simply so grateful that they had given me experiences and made me feel the whole rainbow of emotions during my lifetime. Even the worst ones, I was so deeply grateful. When I died, I dissolved into atoms and became a billion tiny parts of the people i had known, loved or hated and i became a part of entire world and the universe, and it made me feel so peaceful and happy.
It’s two sides of the same coin. We are never more alone and lost in the world than when we are stuck in this one form and forced to live a life we never chose and barely understand, but at the same time, we are never truly alone at all, and we belong to each other and to the unknown in equal measures.
I don’t know what happened to my brain those two times, one year apart, but it fundamentally changed me and didn’t change me at all.
In general I appreciate life more than I used to exactly because it is all borrowed time, but I still have many, many days where all the stupid shit feels big and important, when it really isn’t.
Knowing that nothing truly matters, does not inspire depression and black thoughts in me personally. It frees me to make my own rules and live my life the way I think is the most positive. What impacts do I want to leave behind? Every day is a chance to leave a positive impact in some way. I can forgive myself for falling into the stupid worries in my day to day life as long as I remember to zoom out and appreciate how awesome it is that we are all here and what we can learn from one another.
I was recently reminded of life being fickle when I had to have my breast removed to save me from getting cancer. Made me make a few drastic changes to my life. Started spending more time with my siblings, made me finally cut off my parents and it made me promise myself to work less even if it means I will earn less. Can’t help the mundane worries. They slip in from time to time, but man, it’s nice to have these big wake up calls once in awhile. They are good reminders to spend your time on what matters to you. To me, it’s people and peace. I really don’t need much. Just a peaceful, boring life and the closeness of the people I love. That’s all.
