see, this just makes you come off like a jagoff.
the rampant consumerism in nerd spaces seems to disprove the Lemmy title in the large, even if this specific example indicates the opposite wrt marketing by software firms aimed at developers.
the only thing I could think of with a smart fridge is being able to check the contents from your phone while you are at the store to see if you need milk or whatever…but that’s not really a problem that justifies ads and the absolute invasion of privacy and the fact that the thing is likely about as secure as a wooden fence on a bank vault

seems like a common theme in most creative industries: the more money that flows in the less congenial to experimentation and deviation the industry becomes.
To quote a giant piece of shit, “Don’t Fuck With The Formula”
TOTP is the superior option, IMO, but I’m no expert on security so maybe they’re insecure? it sure seems like some folks would rather do anything but time-based onetimes.
hardware keys are a pain in the neck, just one more thing to be lost.
American Far-Right Evangelicalism is the biggest heresy in 21st century Christianity and possibly the most wide spread heresy in the history of the religion.

way ahead of you there, guy
Purity tests are dangerous.
Gotta love how it’s only a purity test when it’s progressives asking for concessions from the center. When the center doesn’t want to compromise it’s never obstinacy, it’s merely “pragmatism” but the left is expected to concede nearly everything. Phooey!
Why would he be fired for hitting his talking points? They feed him the line and he speaks the line.
If there is backlash enough, a canned apology is transmitted. If the response goes the other way, they consider the window shifted and prepare for the next milestone.

consider the Dot Com Bubble: the internet obviously didn’t disappear but that doesn’t mean there weren’t serious economic consequences.
This was Vance’s plan all along: become Vice President so he could get the CIA to initiate an entrapment operation to coerce some internet loser to shoot Charlie Kirk so he could take over his podcast.
The mind boggles
JD Vance the type of dude to say “no homo” when his wife finally forces him to wash his bunghole
