Ye Power Trippin' Bastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Lost ability to interact with a quarter of my feed after prominent poster on communities I'm subscribed to blocked me over a mundane disagreement about nukesEnglish
5·5 days agoI’d argue that blocking people, even over petty disagreements isn’t exactly wrong. I am a strong believer in curating one’s own experience, which is generally the consensus on platforms such as Tumblr; and arguably the biggest strength of strong tagging systems.
With this particular post, I don’t know if I’d say it’s ‘power tripping’ per se, but more of an unfortunate byproduct of a particular user’s outsized presence.

Peertube@lemmy.world•What's Stopping you from using PeerTube?English
13·5 days agoMy contribution is that PeerTube lacks variety in it’s ‘unimportant’ videos. It’s easy on monopolistic platforms to be able to search any given topic and be fed with whatever movie trailer, or obscure game footage you’ve suddenly been stricken with a thirst for.

Peertube@lemmy.world•What's Stopping you from using PeerTube?English
8·5 days agoIt’s a self-sustaining problem, I suppose. My understanding is that PeerTube improves performance by distributing video streaming across instances that have frequently requested particular videos, and p2p streaming with concurrent viewers. Video streaming isn’t exactly an easy task on servers, and the solution requiring adoption doesn’t help.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Reddit repost bots taking over entire communitiesEnglish
2·9 days agoYeah, that’s true. Thinking about it more ‘just block them’ only really works if they aren’t most of the platform. I make most of my posts to encourage discussion, and I don’t see repost bots doing much to that end.
1+1 does not equal window, and I’m tired of pretending it does.

11·9 days agoDoes blocking not work? I’m not the biggest fan of repost bots myself, but they exist for a specific purpose (however tenuous their ability to achieve it may be.)

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If I was on Windows 7 and couldn't change my OS, what VPN should I use to bypass censorship? If I shouldn't use a VPN, what would be a better way to bypass censorship?English
10·11 days agoCensorship has many degrees to it, and your needs would be determined by your threat model. Once you are more aware of what you need, finding proper support should be easier. Otherwise you will wind up getting advice too extreme for your practical purposes.

26·11 days agoI can only go off of what I’ve heard directly from Bethesda devs, who from what I’ve seen generally have the attitude of ''he is a great boss who has been given too much to handle as the studio got bigger." You’re probably referring to the ‘seagulling’ post which, afaik, was a 4chan post without a source.

Completely fair, I made this post assuming that ‘anyone on fediverse social forums obviously knows what PeerTube is,’ thanks for pointing out the flaw in my unconscious biases, I’ll keep it in mind if I make more posts like this.
Essentially, PeerTube is to YouTube what Lemmy is to Reddit, a network of video streaming websites where the content of each website is, in theory, accessible through other instances in the network. I made this post in an effort to identify common reasons people who try PeerTube can’t stick around.
