I asked whether the model had been trained on, or had access to, our sessions in Codex, into which we had been putting all our drafts for the whole of this project. I was told the model did not look up user data. I asked again, about training, and I did not get an answer.

Wow I had suspected this would eventually happen, but for it to be this blatant this quickly is alarming. They feel so emboldened due to the complete lack of consequences for stealing.

Yeah it’s literally not for you. Its like opening up cad (engineering tool) and complaining that there’s a learning curve. My good friend is a graphic designer. I tried to get them to use gimp when they couldn’t pay for photoshop anymore but it sounded like they just wanted to rip their hair out because of how behind photoshop it is. Gimp needs the basic features that are expected from photoshop for people to be willing to transition. You would be better off trying a graphic design bootcamp.

I will try to convince them to test it out but they just got access to photoshop again so it’s unlikely they’ll want to touch gimp anytime soon😮‍💨

The easiest way this could work would be allowing you to group your subscriptions manually or automatically tagging them into preset categories (which would still use AI technically). It’s not really feasible to create an endless number of shitty algorithms that probably won’t give you exactly what you want.

PSA: on youtube, you can turn off the algorithm by turning off watch history, so you will only see your subscriptions page, but also related videos under the current video you’re on. I spend less time there now, and enjoy the content I do watch much more.

The one that always pops into my head is “better to reign in hell than to serve in heaven”. I don’t agree with it, but I always imagine that’s the conservative mentality. My mind gets stuck on the thought that their utopia is literally hell.

I don’t think I have trauma, but mainly because my narcolepsy has made me a nihilist with blunted emotions. You will definitely feel something akin to nausea if you fully deplete your glycogen stores, which is a much more extreme short term shock to the gut (long distance runners know the feeling). Although if you consider nausea to only mean feeling like throwing up, maybe you wouldn’t even call it nausea if you don’t get that particular symptom.

What’s curious to me is no mention of relaxing it’s standards on drugs. There’s two main reasons real talent doesn’t apply to the federal government regardless of administration: non-competitive pay and no drugs. No drugs also means that you need to disclose any illicit drug use in the past and that might disqualify you. If they’re relaxing their standards on people who hire sex workers (huge honeypot risk), people who steal from employers (obvious compromise risk), and people who have engaged in animal cruelty (sociopaths), but not drugs, they have completely lost the purpose of conducting the background checks.

I saw something similar when buying a portable scanner. I sat there and actually read the T&Cs. The arbitration clause says you automatically agree to it unless you send in a letter within like 30 or 60 days of purchase. I returned it for unrelated reasons, but the lack of regulations in the US has made these companies so stupidly infuriating to deal with.

It’s the fine tuning phase of llms that require human “graders” in a sense to tell the model what is a helpful vs unhelpful response and elevate it from a literal autocomplete tool to a chatbot. The biggest platform for this kind of work is DataAnnotation if you want to look it up. It’s not just random people in the global south but also professionals training the model on their niche expertise (e.g., lawyers, accountants, engineers). The other type of work that has been going on even pre-llm chatbot era is, as you said, moderation. You moderate the chatbot for “bad” answers, correct them, and often that means impersonating the bot to the end user. I believe this is the main driver behind llm progress lately; literally humans teaching AI how to appear more human.
