Television@piefed.social•Is Star Trek Discovery worth a go if I liked Picard and like Strange New Worlds?English
4·8 days agoHave you watched any other Trek besides those two? If not, you’ll probably enjoy Discovery.
I tried to get into Discovery when it first aired, coming from being steeped in the TNG era shows. It was not the Trek I was used to and I felt it didn’t show reverence for the franchise. Now that Academy is out, though, I’m planning to rewatch and finish Discovery.

5·11 days agoBad Bunny skipped the US dates of his tour because of the threat of ICE casing the joint. This is sending a message: a racist, stupid, eye-rollingly obvious message. I imagine this will go over worse than showing Trump’s image on the jumbotron.
Good work!
I thought this was a tough one.
I thought today’s puzzle (1463) was difficult, too: not a lot of hints.

151·19 days agoNice of Dwyer to make his art edible. I expect this to be a stunt. It is exactly the type of thing I did with my friends in art school. We really thought we were edgy. I’m glad no one was there to write a snarky article about it, though there were people there to arrest us.

History@lemmy.world•Innocent African-American child George Stinney executed after being falsely accused of murdering two white girls | 1944English
47·29 days agoThe image is from a short film: https://youtu.be/5iL1f-jV32A
George Stinney’s execution is an example of how terrible we can be to each other. It has been depicted on screen a couple of times and is always gut-wrenching to watch. I just wanted you to know that this is not actual footage of him.

politics @lemmy.world•Five Years Later, It’s Clear Jan 6 (and Trump) Broke AmericaEnglish
60·1 month agoThose of us possibly even older may point to the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine in '87. From Wikipedia, the fairness doctrine “required the holders of broadcast licenses both to present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that fairly reflected differing viewpoints.” In short, it’s repeal paved the way for Fox News and led all the way to CBS under Weiss.
But to your point, there are 3 things on my platform that I tell anyone who wants to hear it. 3 actionable items:
- Reinstate the Fairness Doctrine.
- Repeal the Patriot Act.
- Overturn Citizens United.
I didn’t say it would be easy.
I agree, which is why I don’t see why people are saying the answer is 16. You add in the parentheses, you multiply, then you divide. The answer is 1.
This left-to-right business linked below is complete nonsense when it comes to equations. That’s how westerners read books, but not how math is communicated. Am I that old? Like Mr. Incredible said, did they change math!?!
What do we say to the god of death? Not today,
Luckovich is a badass.
“I didn’t say she was crazy, I said she was fucking Goofy!”

That can’t be true, it’s just for satire, right? Right?
