  • We had a big solar array and oversized battery installed about a year ago. I have custom control logic setup that lets me discharge the battery to the grid when the electricity price spikes at night. We are on a electricity retailer that provides real-time pricing. This system means we draw nearly zero power from the grid, nearly zero demand charges, and usually earn about $3 to $5 a day selling at night. About once every 2 months there is a huge price spike and we earn $20 to $80 during the night which is a nice cherry on the top.

    On cloudy days my logic charges the battery from the grid when power is cheap so we don’t draw power at night when it’s expensive.
