Everything else is FOSS besides the server and snaps can even be installed locally. I wrote a section of an article about most of the complaints. Most of the complaints I hear are just elitistic bullshit that makes new users confused and spreads misinformation.
I heard this before. Is it because of its documentation?
Nobody gave a fuck when Launchpad was open sourced. People just demand and demand and when a company does the thing they don’t care.
He is a true CEO of Linux. Has no clue about what he’s doing but he’s very confident. He should’ve at least read a tiny bit about how this works. Such as, you can’t go and install apt packages without updating your system first, or else you will run into issues. You also can’t use a GUI apt frontend as well as apt via the command line. Some of the errors he encountered are totally Ubuntu’s fault tho, such as the broken installer.
I need to install all of my apps under Linux as well. Doesn’t make much of a difference. I don’t like the default browser, media player, torrent client, office suite, etc. that Mint ships with for example.

5·1 year agoSomeone definitely reads the changed code of Gentoo packages. You are saying that every operating system on the planet is untrustworthy, besides gentoo and a few other source-based distros, but let’s target Ubuntu in particular.
Windows itself was installed during that time. Additional software installation took a few minutes. I installed stuff when I needed it thorough the day.
How the fuck. I seriously want to know. My W11 IoT installed under half an hour.
Sure. And a regular user will visit Steam’s website and download a .deb. Which will work as most people use Debian/Ubuntu derivatives. The Steam flatpak is not even official.
Like every linux community. Living in a bubble that doesn’t exist.
Plasma supports wayland as well. On distros where it doesn’t ship by default all you have to do is install a package.
Not something most people are gonna do. If you need privacy and security on the level where even Steam worries you, Windows can be made private too. It’s not even that hard. You just install a different ISO that allows local accounts and do all the necessary tweaks to harden it.
Yes, that’s my point. You will eventually log into something when using the computer. So while it’s weird that MS made it mandatory to sign into Windows 11, who cares.
They can also get your data without an account if they wanted.
What is the very first thing you do after installing the super private and much sekure Linux? You download Steam and give Valve your data. This is bullshit.
They might simply like Mint’s Cinnamon over Ubuntu’s GNOME. That’s a valid choice.
I’ve used GIMP to create all of my memes. It’s just fine, even if the UI can be unintuitive.
It lacks features compared to Photoshop, which is a reference to the fact that 2 developers maintain the core features of it.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•I respect people who don't like snaps, but Canonical will not abandon a successful project
520·2 years agoWhat is the “general sentiment” tho? Sure, on Lemmy and Reddit communities I usually see people hate Snaps, but that’s just a few thousands of people. Another metric of success could be developers maintaining their software as snaps. You will find that quite a lot of them do so.

Which one?
