You guys are aware that Swift has been an Open Source project since Swift v2.2 (released 2015) right? While Apple are still one of the main contributors, it’s open for all platforms to use, whether they chose to adopt it is a completely different topic. They don’t use the best license for OSS though.

Loving seeing Apple give Android some love. They also recently introduced a switch API or something for app developers to be able to export their settings so a user can switch to “another platform” (e.g. Android).

What I like about that is, it’s showing that Apple is willing to reach beyond its borders. By getting friendlier with Android and Android users, they’re welcoming Android users to use their services. I don’t really like what that says for Apple users in general — if Apple wants to be more service-oriented like Google, does that mean we’ll see more ads? We got ads in the App Store, ads are coming to Maps (and Maps already pushes Yelp pretty hard), so I’m hoping this cooperativity doesn’t mean we’ll lose what makes Apple (think) different.

They’re only doing this to comply with EU regulations not out of the good of their hearts.

They’re worried about antitrust. This is a calculated choice. If it were altruistic, it would’ve been there from the beginning.

Oh, for sure. I mean, that wasn’t the conclusion I’d reached, but I don’t doubt it for a second.

None of these companies have your best interests at heart.
