I started Resident Alien about a month and a half ago and I’m really enjoying it. I watch it during cardio days at the gym so I’m only getting through about 1.5 episodes per week, but I find myself wanting to cheat and watch it more often.
It took me a few episodes to get into it, but I’m halfway into season 2 and finding it’s right at the sweet spot of scifi and quirky comedy. It reminds me a bit of Northern Exposure with the character relationships and general tone, though its a very different show plot-wise.
Of course Alan Tudyk is fantastic as always but the rest of the cast is great too, and I’m really enjoying seeing each character’s story develop. It was a nice surprise to see Linda Hamilton in the cast, amazing as always, playing a military general on the hunt for aliens.
I’m trying to avoid any kind of spoilers. But for those who don’t know it’s about an alien who crash landed on earth during mission and finds himself disguised as a doctor in a small Colorado town while he attempts to figure out a way home. It’s funny, but Harry’s (Tudyk) reflections on humanity as he tries to assimilate are often insightful and touching.
If you’re looking for a sci-fi show that’s not too heavy and more character than effects driven, it’s worth checking out.

Love that show! The only fly in the ointment for me was D’Arcy. Her character got really grating as the show goes on
Everytime her character had any growth they seemed to immediately backtrack it and then double-down on her being a screwup.
Exactly. It’s like the writers vacillated between giving her a redemption arc, and using her as a foil to drive a narrative where things were going well but they needed someone to screw something up, so back to the ol well.
