I stumbled upon a few long eared owls somewhere I wasn’t expecting to find them. Couldn’t get a better shot but was so happy to see them very clearly for the first time. They’re not very big but their stare is intense.

    Beautiful capture, even with it “hiding” behind those leaves! 😁

    Long Ears are one of my favs. Great coloration, those stunning orange eyes, and of course those lusciously long plumicorns!

        And they’re one of the few social owls that will sometimes hang out in groups!

        I never got around to posting about it, but this one European town is the center of a Long Ear migration, and there can be 100 of them in a single tree!
