So i was bored and saw a trailer for Playdate and on a whim I decided to give it a watch and yes, it is bad. VERY bad. For one this the movie reads like it was written by AI. And the editing and ADR is atrocious as well. Look. It’s just a BAD movie overall.
BUT. There is a discussion to be had. Because of the ending.
The movie is about Kevin James trying to bond with his step son who is coded as being Gay because he likes to dance. And macho Kevin just can’t seem to connect with this kid. (Who already calls him dad by the way)
While trying to bond in the park by throwing a football around, they encounter Alan Richson’s Character who is doing the same thing and they strike up a conversation.
Long story short, they both start being chased by bad men with guns because Alan’s character stole the kid he currently acting as the father towards.
Eventually they find out that the kid is actually a military clone of Alan Richson’s character, and the bad guys get the kid back back. When Kevin and Alan finally find the kid to get him back, they discover not just one kid, but hundreds.
They eventually get Their Kid back but then the question arises as what to do about the rest of them. The movie decides…
TO BLOW THEM THE FUCK UP!
You read that right. they blow up hundreds of innocent brainwashed kids.
My only question is did NO ONE at any point go “Hey guys, maybe blowing up a bunch of kids might look bad, don’t you think?”
Like, did Kevin James and Alan Richson not once go “Guys, I’m not so sure I want to star in a movie where we mass murder children?”
We sure the actors even acted in this movie? Also I can’t stand Kevin James, that fucker wouldn’t have a career if Chris Farley had not died.
Can’t wait for the sequel
This time the army of children are clones of La Femme Nikita, and they’re all inappropriately dressed. Special cameo by el Presidente Trump!
That’s wild I didn’t know it was a Netflix movie as I came across it on the Prime. I never assumed the son was gay, but definitely on the polarizing side of James, I would say eccentric at the very least. I just saw it as a kid being a kid and trying to figure out who he was. When Richson’s character blew them up I definitely gave an audible “wait what the fuck?!” Even though I watched it alone out of boredom. The way I see it, only one of the clones was humanized through the film. The remaining hundreds that popped up last minute were only seen as killing machines. Nothing more. Because they didn’t go through the same growth process as the one did, that made it ok to blow them up? I guess? I don’t know man, between that and the mom mafia, the messages in that movie were all kinds of fucked up. I chuckled once or twice but overall it was an awful waste of time.
AMBER BUDDIESSSSSS
I shouldn’t have laughed at that part, yet I definitely did. So maybe the movie is trash intentionally, because most of us are… Trash?
Do they blow them all up or do they keep at least the 2 kids that were with them at the beginning?
They keep the two
Those two kids get them back by blowing them up in the post-credits scene.
/jk - for those that need it.
reading this, my faith in humanity died a little bit more. Not because of your question, but holy fuck, I avoid advertisements like the plague, so I totally forgot slop like this actually gets funding. . . . .
Like, did Kevin James and Alan Richson not once go “Guys, I’m not so sure I want to star in a movie where we mass murder children?”
Maybe they did a „Joan is awful”
Didn’t Richardson blow them up? His character was quite wacko, so I thought it fit into the movie. I didn’t think too hard about it, though, which is evident because I finished the movie.
That kind of sounds like Gemini Man in some ways (unless I’m severely misremembering, which is very possible).
That doesn’t sound like a GOOD outcome. But, without having seen the movie, I can’t 100% say that it wasn’t the least bad solution.
