Hate to say it but that area of Memphis has been poisoned as fuck for a long time. I know people who work in SW Memphis and they try to spend as little time outside as possible.
Guess where on this map Elon built his data center:

So he’s just poisoning it more because it has already been identified as a sacrifice zone?
I would imagine the land is cheapest there. Not sure what he gains building it that close to Memphis though, maybe the utilities can’t support it further out?
IIRC this one is being powered by portable methane generators, but maybe water access is an issue
True, but “we’re not making things THAT much worse” is a defense AIBros like to whip out.
Can’t even be smug here, like this is a real radicalization moment for many a red state lefty.
If these are my “friends”, who needs the libs?
EDIT: mistakenly put ‘rural’ when I meant ‘red state’.
True but Memphis isn’t really rural.
That’s what’s shocking about this, this isn’t a Podunk town, Memphis is one of the biggest cities in the Southern US, probably why there’s bigger backlash against this.
Yeah my bad, probably should have rephrased this to “red state lefty”.
Not really “your bad”, Memphis is sort of seen as “culturally” rural, as are a lot of cities in the Southern part of the US. People seem to forget that Atlanta is a major metro area cuz it doesn’t culturally feel like NYC.
Nice logical system we have here
