I have wondered what percentage of Gnome users use either dash to dock or dash to panel. At this point I think they should both be options in the stock settings app.

That’s really surprising. I’m a regular reader of omgubuntu, and they frequently post about popular gnome extensions. Would I have heard of it outside of this source 🤔 I think probably not. So perhaps I shouldn’t be so surprised.

The feature-set of the PaperWM extension built-in would be nice. But only because it ensures that it will always work. (:

But I don’t mind if it stays an extension; the development seems so stable now. I am enjoying this linear window managemant after years again. How could I live without it?

    • Separating the libadwaita toolkit from the Adwaita theme so I can use one without the other

    • Fully keyboard-navigable file picker dialog. Or make it more straightforward to plug in a new implementation without also having to tear out the drywall.

Options for accessibility like having the start menu in the bottom like in kde and stuff around that. I absolutely can’t handle the whole screen being covered to.open the apps drawer

Switching workspaces independently for each monitor. It’s one of the main reasons I use other WMs.

How can I make it a default?

When I open a new Nautilus instance, it’s always a new window. There’s no way to open a tab, not a window. The only way I know is to press ctrl + t in the app. Or open a new window, new tab, drag the tab I need to window-1, and close just opened tab-2 on the window-2.

I have automations that open new Nautilus windows with given paths (e.g. all the directories I need for a particular project I’m working on), all of them are opened with new windows. When that’s just one new window it’s irritating, but manageable. But if I open even three new paths that way, I have three new windows, which is useless and irritating even on my huge 27” Quad HD display. On top of that, Nautilus likes to crash if I suddenly open three new windows. (My computer is plenty powerful.)

Last time I checked (which wasn’t too long ago, half a year or so) that wasn’t a thing, and the developers stated it’s a complication they never plan implementing. All I need is just one fucking cli parameter, not even a ‘open tabs by default’ checkbox.

I assume folks who downvoted me are not aware of this, obviously.

Dolphin has this and works perfectly. But it’s too bloated to my liking. I really like Nautilus, so I just live without this feature and manage my work projects with CLI file managers. (Usually ranger, but not limited to it.)

From cli you cannot right now. Thought you ment through GUI. The discussion about this is ongoing in 3718 and in 1687. Go and hit thumbs up on them.

And, again. You cannot do that from GUI either. There’s no default option that allow you open tabs by default. Thanks God it opens new location in a new tab when I press things like Ctrl + Enter. But even opening downloads dir from Firefox opens the new window by default, if I’m not wrong right now. I just stopped using that feature because of that. But I doubt it’s fixed.

And seems like nobody cares to even reply three months later.

Well, there’s my comment. But thanks for the first link! Haven’t seen it, or I don’t remember it.

It’s quite similar to what I want. Not exactly, but today’s situation is just wrong. I open two paths and each is a new window. I’d love to have the option to just add tabs to my current window. But at least having a set of paths to be opened in one window, instead of one window for each path, it’s just useless.
