Chooses to? The title makes it sound as if AFU is consciously choosing not to win. What, are they being playful or something?

Prep for the rug pull, maybe. “We gave them all the weapons they needed but they just didn’t want to win.”

he means in the context of “liberating crimea and Donbass” , he is saying they can’t do it without taking considerable amount of losses and even if they manage to it will be total destruction.

Except those won’t result in “defeating Russia”. So I still fail to see why it needed to be phrased this way

Oh sure. Losing Crimea (in this scenario) even more so (there’s a fleet base). But I still wouldn’t call it a defeat. Defeat implies some very specific things - imposing one state’s will on the other and forcing it do what its told

I’m sorry VJ but there’s no scenario short of WW3 and total apocalypse that Ukraine is doing anything resembling defeating Russia

Vijay said master planners in US won’t go for nukes… But yeah broader war maybe an option.

For the sake of argument, what happens after, if the counteroffensive is a success?

Does NATO formally enter the war and invade russia? If not, how do you force russia to pay reparations for ukraine?
