There was a trend a while back to redraw SMB1 Princess Peach. This one was an outlier for being goonerfied. Most were either earnest attempts to draw her better, or shitposts.

In the comments people pointed out that the original design was mirrored on the bottom to save memory and that it would have looked different on a CRT screen that blurred the colors together a bit and just generally was less boxy looking.

several of these are goonerfied, others are jarringly off-tone. Only a handful of them are better than the original because most of them have very poor art direction - despite the original being pretty lazy and half-baked. There’s also probably some technical limitations we aren’t considering, and it also had to be animated which complicates any design since it has to work in different poses and facial expressions.
~5 gooner designs but most of them are great. I like the one that’s basically Saber from Fate with the plate dress.
