It would matter only in so far as the Fascists could have used it as a pretext for more oppression, as in the case whereafter Herschel Grynszpan murdered Ernst vom Rath (in Paris), or in the case whereafter Theodore N. Kaufman published a rant (in Imperial America) calling for the sterilisation of Germans. Then again, considering that the Fascists had fabricated casus belli before, an argument could be made that if no pretext existed, it would have been necessary to invent one.
