These types of facilities have little to no oversight and know it. Frankly most of them need to be burned down and their staff severely investigated, hell have the parents judged et cetera looks into.

As someone who grew up in these places “Extreme behavioral issues” generally means they’re putting you on so many drugs you can’t think straight and if you say no they lock you in a closet and beat you until you take the pill, or hold you down and give you a shot if they have an injectable version.

Physical and psychological abuse is constasnt and normalized, and sexual abuse is common and covered up, or the victims are blamed for it.

They get paid more if your “level” is high, so they make sure you are always a problem, and woe be unto the poor souls who find themselves there if they have a psychiatrist “on staff” because they will be getting those sweet kickbacks on forcing unnecessary and even harmful drugs on kids. And if they refuse to take them? Back in the closet!

I’m really sorry you had to go through that. There’s no amount of misbehaving that warrants a child being abused like that.

Part of the point is there often isn’t any misbehaving, prior to ending up there, they make money off having “problem” kids and they manufacture problems to increase revenue.

We’re a business to them and, since they conveniently do not view us as people, some damage to th product is acceptable as long as it does not affect the bottom line.

That is so horrible. I talked to a guy who was actually there, and got out right around the time it closed. He trusted me enough to tell me some of the shit that went down. From what I have learned since his experience was just the norm. NO kid should ever have to go through that.
