Wow, somehow this is the first time I realized that Elron operates an ISP. Not exactly my first choice for someone to trust with my data or activity.
You can already see how incredibly irresponsibly he is using it in Ukraine. He turned it off at some point because he didn’t like what Ukraine was about to do (go on the offensive) and has recently refused to activate the service for the crimea area, unilaterally hampering the war effort of a sovereign nation engaged in a defensive war, even acting against the foreign policy of the United States. This degree of agenda and control over geopolitical affairs is unacceptable to have for a private person. A legislative body of some sort should have complete oversight over whom he turns off the internet for.

Except none of that is true.
It was always off. The biographer has retracted the statement, Ukraine has provided no proof it was ever on (e.g we used it in op prior to this one successfully), and their contract stated that offensive use was not allowed.
That wasn’t recent either, it was winter 2022, and the DoD has since signed a contract with SpaceX taking control of those dishes, allowing Ukraine to do what they want, which by the way, is how it should have always been, but the DoD dragged their feet.
I hate Musk with the fury of a thousand Suns and totally can believe that he’d do that. However,

It does look like you’re correct.
Nationalize Starlink!
FYI you shouldn’t trust any ISP with your traffic.
Get a VPN
That means you’re trusting the VPN company with your traffic. It’s not clear whether that’s better or not.
There are VPNs out there that have been taken to court to provide information and they couldn’t provide anything when compelled because there was nothing to provide.
But ya, if you choose a bad one then it’s can be a problem.
Its clearly “better”. Its 2 levels of abstraction instead of one. And one of them claims to hold or record any data. It however is just a claim.
So the key is that a vpn is better, but is it good enough? Alot of the awnswer is going to depend on how nefarious your usage is and how much effort is worth to find out.
The ISP’s ability to watch all your traffic is removed in favor of the VPN company, so it’s still 1 level, isn’t it? The thing is one has no idea how much data they retain or what they do with it. For all we’d know the VPN company could be operated directly by the CIA or whatever.
ISP’s are regulated. I think it’s fairly common that they’re required to hold on to all traffic data for some period of time. Makes it much easier for cops to investigate piracy and such.
As for the trustworthiness of VPN’s, there are ways of evaluating that without just blindly trusting them.
That’s what I was wondering, whether laws (varying by country of course) required VPNs to also hold data for some period of time. I could picture some people using a sketchy VPN that’s actually worse than their ISP, too.
Not as far as I know, but even if your country regulates VPNs, you can just use one from another country.
I’ve used Mullvad previously. They’re very good about privacy. You can even pay with crypto if you’re extra paranoid.
Elron might be the best bit of wordplay I’ve seen in ages! You have yourself a great week zeppo.
Edit: Pardon the downvote just wanted to upvote twice.
I can’t really tell if you’re serious, but anyway, thanks! I hope your weekend is lovely as well.
Very serious, name mashing two ego maniacs with too much money and too little sense in a simple but very unexpected way is very good.
Elon is suing space for loss of revenue
Space jews, you know the ones with lasers causing wildfires
🤣🤣 $200 billion will make that happen
You can tell when Musk is lying. He starts to stutter.
That’s unrespectful! It is known that he is not able to capture the nuances of the portions of his brain perceiving reality!
So he was only off by an order of magnitude.
And what’s an order a magnitude amongst friends?
Note: I came here to say what you already said. LoLLol cheers!

That’s almost a shame. My rural relatives deserve a decent internet connection, too. However, this is Elon we’re talking about…
In before he claims that’s why we shouldn’t help other countries who declare war (on innocent countries implied, ignoring who invaded whom).
He is the most successful snake oil salesperson ever. He promises everything, and then delivers 10% of it 5 years late. Yet investors keep throwing money at him.

The point was he said it would bake $12 billion by this year.
Elon has the dubious honor of being one of the few people other than Alex Jones that I assume everything they say is a lie.
I mean, just add it to the pile of various things there were supposed to be well in place by this year. From SpaceX, Tesla, HyperLoop, Boring, etc. there’s a long ass list of crap he’s said would have happened by now. At some point people will start to remember. Scope change and new information changing dates, I get. Elon perpetually over promises and under delivers as a general business strategy.
Tee hee.
