If I were writing the script, a blue wave this November is followed up with even more backlash against Republicans in 2028. And with a competent President running the census, we will find that the Trump immigration enforcement push has been actively harmful to states like Florida that fully participated. They might have deported away a Congressional seat when they allowed ICE to abduct all those people.
Oh yes it is. It’s not about how many people you lose, it’s about how your state keeps pace with the population in other states. There’s an algorithm that is used to calculate it all.
In the last census, NY lost a seat because it was short by 89 residents.
Side note: the Census enumeration date is April 1. For the 2020 census, that was a week or two into the COVID pandemic. But NYC (and it’s suburbs) were hit extremely hard right at the start. It’s extremely possible that if the enumeration date were March 1, NY doesn’t lose that seat, simply because of deaths due to COVID in March in NY vs. other states

I’m not sure 30k is anywhere near close enough to lose a congressional seat- florida’s seats represent ~750k people each, for perspective.
