so i’m writing this because i see a lot of comments removed from this community routinely.
i think we need to talk about fundamentals of what it means to be a human. to be human means to have a soul and to believe in people’s wisdom and willingness to learn and find themselves. this can only happen in an environment where people can make mistakes and not shot down when they make one.
this is a fundamental principle of human existence. i’ve seen troubling tendencies in this community that comments get removed routinely by the moderators, mostly for not fitting the moderator’s views. you have to let people talk. they may be wrong but without discussion there is no development. if you whiplash people’s thoughts, you’re only gonna end up with dogs, and that’s not good.
There is no such thing as “free speech.” Freedom of speech in reality means letting the ambient positions of the ruling class proliferate. In English-speaking spaces, that is overwhelmingly going to be liberal. You can either hide the space, so only socialists find it, or you have to take an active stance in removing that which serves primarily to disinform the populace. Otherwise, you have to spend a tremendous effort in responding to each and every claim made.
It’s not about free speech, it’s about poisoning the well. Communists and leftist spaces have always had to have a tight hold because of the numbers of people that will try to infiltrate it to weaken the cause. They bring their liberalism to the door with their anti-communist propaganda that they’ve been spoon-fed all of their life. Try to claim they are one of us, we have the same goals and but theirs is the only right solution. They want to work within the confines of the same system that exploits them. Which is why we say we need to read theory and history in order to have an understanding of how to change the systems. If you don’t understand the history, you don’t know how to change the present
hmm yeah i see where you are coming from. the thing with “poisoning the well” is a real issue, and i’m wondering what strategies would be effective in preventing it? eventually a free discussion platform is needed, but it has to let the spirit flow freely or we’re never getting anywhere. things only happen when people feel like it, and you can’t force people to feel something.
Tell me you don’t know what freedom of speech actually means without saying you don’t know.
“Freedom of speech” is how capitalism allowed and allows fascists into power, by using an empty moral which legitimates fascists when capitalists need them to do the dirty job.
Your points reads like “I want to see capitalist view in a community that sits against capitalism”.
Maybe state your point instead ?
I dont have to let you do anything I can plug my ears and ignore you while you talk til your face turns blue. I can block you and never see a word you write ever again. Just the same way you can do to me. Just cuz you have an opinion doesn’t mean anyone has to hear it.
you have to let people talk
The whole fediverse is carefully designed to make it so there is no central authority that can in any meaningful way prevent anyone from saying anything they want. We are letting you talk, so do it. Stand up an instance. Create a community. Post your thoughts. But that freedom cuts both ways — you can’t change how the owners of this community want it to be moderated and what they want it to say.
Funny coming from feddit.org. is defending a supermasist ideology like zionism freedom of speech?
