UK tourists (also called “guiris” by the locals) are considered a blight in Spain, and rightfully so. But to be fair, it’s not enterely their fault; when the only kind of attraction you give tourists is cheap alcohol and beaches with barely any kind of checks, this is what happens. Benidorm, Magaluf… they are considered drinking-tourism goals for a reason; and it reflects on the kind of tourism they attract.

But hey, at least they give us some laughs every summer when they start jumping out of balconies and killing themselves and the balconing federation starts the championship to see which country conquers the cup.

It’s not really a thing about people committing suicide. It’s actually drunk idiots jumping out of balconies to try and land inside the pool of the hotel. Sometimes they aim well and find water, sometimes they aim less well and find whatever the hotel has besides the pool: concrete, a table… The balconing federation keeps track of each jump and assigns points based on height and result (the higher the jump, the more points; death gives also more points than injury). At the end of the season, they count the victims and declare which country won.

It’s also a joke around here to say that summer officially starts when the first idiot kills themselves by failing to land in a pool from the balcony.

It doesn’t really matter if it’s suicide or an accident, making a game of people dying is pretty fucking dark.

It was dark the first time. It was dark the second time. When the deaths are already over the hundred and the injured well over two hundreds it becomes stupid and something to mock them about. Also, the federation doesn’t count accidental falls or other kind of injuries, it counts exclusively people jumping from the balconies to try and land in the pool of a hotel. At a certain point, you have to start mocking them.

😐 No you do not. You do not have to do anything.

But you can defend this all you want. You do you, I guess. 👍 I just think people lives being lost deserves respect. For every accidental death, it was their first death. Each person didn’t die so many times. Their families didn’t “get used to it”. Their families and friends will not “mock them”.

Maybe keep that in mind while defending this childish game. 🙏 There are survivors for every death.

We have different opinions. The first time a tourist decided it was fun to jump from a 3rd floor balcony to try and land on the pool (putting not only themselves but every other guest in danger) and died, it was a tragedy. After several hundred tragedies (counting not just deaths but also injuries) it becomes something to be pissed about because those assholes are endangering innocent people with their reckless behaviour. So yeah, of course they’ll be mocked. Because if even after several hundred people getting hurt for doing something as reckless as that, they keep coming and doing it, they deserve to be mocked.

If I forgot that every person makes this mistake for the first time, I’d also think like you. But your way of thinking assumes that every person who makes this mistake somehow should have magically learned from the previous tourist’s mistake.

It’s a very stupid mistake, don’t get me wrong. But it doesn’t make it less tragic IMO.

It’s like mocking a child for not knowing calculus when all their older siblings know it. “You didn’t learn it yet?! Bahaha.” 😒

“Federació Balear de Balconing” Absolutely hilarious 😂. I heard about the phenomenon from a Spanish colleague.

Edit: OMG, Brits are leading by a long shot !

Hey Americans! This is what all of Europe thinks about when you mention Brits. Only Americans think they’re snooty and distinguished. Everyone else knows better.

Now which ones you cunts am I gonna fight to convince you that Chelsea is utter shite and that Arsenal is the best football team ever to have existed?

I think they own those cars, right hand drive, UK badge etc. I guess they drove there for charity / fund raising - someone else provided a link for the QR code on display.

Those who can afford to travel abroad these days typically are in a tax bracket which has a high % of asshole probability.
