Messing with videos is nothing new, for Amazon. I remember years ago I tried to watch the old Futurama episodes, and found that they had removed most of the gaps and pauses which went with the script. I’m not sure if this has been fixed, however every episode felt rushed compared to ones I later downloaded.
Just an example I had noticed some time ago. Piracy seems like the best option when companies are doing things like this.
Streaming providers buy a package from whoever distributes the show. A lot of the time the choice they have is the broadcast versions which can be trimmed for time so they can stuff more commercials in. Amazon definitely could have done it themselves too, but may not be entirely on them.
Some station was playing Seinfeld sped up because they thought it was too slow moving.

TV shows used to be 22 minutes long in a 30 minutes slot. Now it’s more like 19 minutes so they sped up the show to fit more ads in.
I watched Star Wars: Resistance, and it was dogshit, but I wanted to finish it because a friend insisted that I had to, so I hit fast forward and watched it at 1.5x speed, and so help me it improved the timing of some of their terrible jokes.

Ugh. Instagram does this too, but also translates it. The translation is robotic and doesn’t have any inflection. I’d rather French I can’t understand with the speaker’s tone than the opposite.
Bonus points for “American company doesn’t understand people can speak more than one language”. At least with Google and YouTube, I had issues where they’d ignore all “other languages” I’ve configured and stubbornly translate German content to English or vice versa, depending on my primary language setting.
I haven’t gotten pissed off about it for a while, so maybe they finally fixed it.
I never watch dubs, so this doesn’t really affect me in any way, but it is ridiculous.
