People who say “I don’t see color” actually mean “I am ignorant of or denying the existence of systemic racism”. When these people are shown examples/statistics of, for example, cops killing/beating black people, these people will think to themselves “there must be another explanation, another reason why the officer beat that guy”.
They think that systemic racism no longer exists, that it’s a thing of the past. After all, we elected a black president didn’t we?
That statement is problematic because it claims you can’t see race, which except in the case that you’re totally blind or something very close to that, is false.
Even a monochromat (complete color blindness) can still see skin color through the varying intensity of light.
