Hobbies can be … “given up”?

*Moves the oscilloscope from the bench to the shelf next to the box of yarn and needles/hooks, carefully pushing aside the set of sharpening stones (used for kitchen knives, chisels, and scythes). The stereomicroscope atop the yarn box wobbles precariously so I move that to a safer spot between the seed cabinet and welding rods. I can now move the sewing machine to the space on the bench, extracting it from atop the vintage amp (awaiting new transistors) between the stack of langstroth frames and the 3 boxes of empty jars. But before I can finish sewing up the new couch upholstery I need to reassemble the motor after inspecting it following an overheating event caused by a faulty pedal (already fixed). The secateurs and grafting knives can be moved out of the way (thankfully that task is done because the scions were taking up way too much space in our small fridge [couldn’t fridge leftovers for almost a month – just scions, and the usual permanent residents like milks, condiments, cheese, carrots, and an entire shelf of 6 different lines of sourdough cultures]).*

Years ago my very adhd girl had a problem with ordering stuff online. Legit multiple packages a day, every day, for several weeks.

Her answer when I soft-confronted her about it: “im just bored” 😂

That happens around here quite often… and it’s not even impulse stuff most of the time, it’s shit we actually need

I’ve always toyed around with the idea of making some sort of hobby exchange program where once you’re bored of a hobby you put it up to exchange supplies with someone else who is bored of a different hobby that is now of great interest to you.

I am grateful that the tweet was gendered. It makes me feel ever so slightly less called out.

All abandoned hobbies lead to the true ultimate hobby of collecting, sorting, and organizing supplies.

My personal hobby is losing supplies and searching in despair for days when I need them for an unrelated project 3 years later, ending up buying them again in desperation, only to find them again by accident but only after losing interest in that other unfinished project.

    Can anyone explain, please?

Craft is a hobby? Supplies is meds? Turns out, when she quits supplies she didn’t liked crafts? But when she is on the supplies she is able to concentrate on crafts?

Turns out she didn’t actually like doing crafts, just buying/collecting the supplies to do crafts. She gets joy from buying things in preparation for doing things but not from doing things.

It’s ADHD, probably not that she didn’t like doing crafts and more that she gets bored, finds some other distraction and forgets about it even though she enjoys it. Unless female ADHD is somehow different from male ADHD
