Hi everyone! I recently switched from Reddit and I’m still getting used to Lemmy.
I’m looking for an Android client that feels as close as possible to the Reddit experience: a clean feed, smooth gestures, easy community switching and strong user expirience.
I’ve seen many options (Voyager, Thunder, Jerboa, Summit, Raccoon, Interstellar) and I’m not sure which one to pick. Open source is a plus for me.
What do you use, and why? Any pros and cons from daily use would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance!
This is very subjective. What I did?
Install ALL THE CLIENTS, log in to each. Use them for a bit, try out the features you think you’ll be doing the most. Feel out what each of them do best. Keep the one(s) you like best. 👍
Best of luck!
I’m liking Summit quite a bit
I’ve recently switched to Summit and I’m surfing Lemmy a lot more because it’s more enjoyable in this app.
Same here.
Same!
👍
Only one I’ve found so far without annoying bugs in it.
i use Summit, it’s good, are others better ? no idea and haven’t needed to change because Summit’s good
I used Jerboa way back when it was the only option.
Have a paid copy of Boost which is also good.
I just use the web version, works best for me. That being said, I do like Voyager and Jerboa.
try voyager, if it’s slow use boost
As someone who switched from reddit just yeaterday, I’m enjoying Voyager too!
After trying multiple clien. I recommend summit
I try voyager but the probleme that i found is notifications. The app has no notifications permission so you should open the app to show received msg or cmts. Did you know what the solution ?
Surprised that I haven’t seen it posted already, but connect feels like joey for reddit. Tried the other app people are talking about, but at least for me, connect feels the most intuitive.
Same. Connect is great
I’m probably the only neanderthal left using Sync. I
Summit is a very close experience to Sync! Definitely give it a try if Sync stops working for you.
Try boost :)
Blorp! Blorp! Blorp!
(No but seriously there is an app called Blorp that I enjoy, can be found on F-Droid)
I used RiF (Reddit is Fun) in the before times. When that got shut down I switched to Lemmy and used Jerboa. I can’t remember why (maybe something broke) but I switched to Voyager and have been quite happy. I’ve found out “there’s an option for that” multiple times when there was a particular feature I didn’t like.
Fuck Spez
Thanks for the recommendations!
I’ve been using connect since I switched from reddit to Lemmy some 5 odd years ago or so, and the experience has been quite underwhelming with regular bugs coming and going and I’m really kinda done with it. I’ll try voyager!
I think I used connect for a bit and it didn’t stick for me.
I really like summit, it’s the most redditesque to me.
I used jerboa for some time and then switched to voyager.
In think it’s really thought out and clean experience. It also gets updated frequently and the team behind it listen to user feedback.I try voyager but the probleme that i found is notifications. The app has no notifications permission so you should open the app to show received msg or cmts. Did you know what the solution ?
I see what you mean. I turn notifications off for basically everything so I never knew that Voyager doesn’t send out notifications.
So unfortunately I don’t think there’s a workaround for your problem.
Same here; been enjoying Voyager

In addition to gathering feedback, I would also strongly recommend trying multiple clients to find one that suits your preferences. It is a relatively friction-free experience.
Summit and boost (from dev who made the one for reddit) are my favorite
Mobile or desktop, my preferred interface is mlmym (aka old.lemmy). Unfortunately .ml doesn’t host it, I left .ml partially for that reason (and partially for others) to move to lemmy.today which has old.lemmy.today. As a 10+ year old.reddit user I find the old Reddit interface ideal, and mlmym is very faithful at recreating it (and actually fits it better on mobile than real old.reddit).
It’s been too long since I used any reddit app to really compare, I just don’t remember them well enough. However, I did use them regularly on Android, so maybe they influenced my preferences? Personally, I really like Blorp. It just feels WAYYYY smoother and less cluttered than all the other ones.
