I have an old thinkcentre m77 and it had an amd fx 4100 and i decided to upgrade to an amd fx 6350 but after that it doesnt respond to anything, like the fans ain’t even turning on, and the lan port doesn’t light up, though it did for a moment but then stopped all of a sudden
Well how do i find out if it can handle it?
Check the power specs for the new card and the old card. Are the the same, if so, that’s not the issue. If not, does the new card fall within the limits of the old card. It’s hard to know for sure, as you didn’t build the machine from parts, so you may need to spec out every part, sum the boot consumption, and compare with the PS spec. Or, you could just upgrade the PS, like I did, and hope that that was the issue (I was wrong, my issue was a bad RAM module).
Edit: some BIOS builds keep error logs. If you could access those logs, it could be insightful. Maybe you could boot with the new card, wait for it to fail, then install the old one, boot again and check the BIOS logs. I’m not sure if the logs would survive that power loss though, but it’s worth a shot.
but i think im just gonna upgrade it but where do i find a slim client power supply
That’s a tough one. Used to be NewEgg, but they’ve gone to garbage in the past several years. eBay or Amazon maybe?
Maybe but i just need international shipping because i live in Denmark so its not all that easy
Gotcha. Yeah, that adds a lot of complexity. Out of curiosity, what’s your goal with upgrading the card?
Getting my nas to run better
Ah ok. I really hope you can get it working :(
Yea me too, though it didnt cost me all that much, i think it was(with the cpu upgrade) 60$ so its not the world
