      This is an exhausting accusation. It leaves the average reader in a position where their best and apparently safest option is to hate something they might have previously liked for reasons they don’t understand or just assume you’re wrong and dislike you instead. I want to understand, but I’m rationing my outrage. And to be frank it’d take a fucking iceberg of context and arguments to twist this light hearted song into the wretched monster your tone characterizes it as.

      Hi.

      Are you Armenian or Kurd maybe?

      I just checked the lyrics and I don’t think this fairly old cover (1990) of an even older song (1953) was praising any Turkish genocide but rather harmlessly cheering some anti-colonialism.

      The chorus talks about New Amsterdam being renamed New York for instance.

      Also “They Might Be Giants” are well known for their anti racist songs.
