This is not true. People succeed though cooperation. Look for information about the Prisoners Dilemma, which is a thought experiment (and real experiment) about whether cooperation or ruthlessness are the key to success.
I don’t think greed or ruthlessness are ways to be successful at all, rather that they come from gaining success over others and then realizing you have people by their short hairs and can yank them in any direction you choose. That what oil companies do to us all year long, and most other companies as well. But I had control of a company, you’d better believe I’d be as ruthless as possible in making people miserable and having them pay through their nose for any product I might make.
