A user on our instance reported a post on lemmynsfw as CSAM. Upon seeing the post, I looked at the community it was part of, and immediately purged all traces of that community from our instance.
I approached the admins of lemmynsfw and they assured me that the models with content in the community were all verified as being over 18. The fact that the community is explicitly focused on making the models appear as if they’re not 18 was fine with them. The fact that both myself and one a member of this instance assumed it was CSAM, was fine with them. I was in fact told that I was body shaming.
I’m sorry for the lack of warning, but a community skirting the line trying to look like CSAM isn’t a line I’m willing to walk. I have defederated lemmynsfw and won’t be reinstating it whilst that community is active.

Control where? How? What staff? You don’t seem to grasp the most basic of fedi-premises.
This is not and never will be “user-centric” in the neoliberal sense. What of the admins control? What of their time, money, and effort spent to host the instance. What of the risks they take?
Did you even miss the part where you can host an instance yourself, if you can’t find one that caters to your desires?
If I wanted full control I would spin up my own private instance. But instead I’m registered on blahaj.zone because I expect admins to remove unwanted content (transphobia, csam, etc) and I appreciate their work
Agreed. As someone who briefly did set up their own instance, there’s a reason why I’m back on this account.
And yet you still thought you’d throw your hat in the ring
I appreciate your perspective, but if you’re from a different instance and don’t view this instance, why are you here? Sure it would be censorship to delete your comment, but the point about that part of the post is nobody asked you. This is the meta for the instance, why are so many people from other instances chipping in? Also, your issue is whether your commentary is expected/welcome and not related to the actual issue at hand.
I thought the whole point of any of this is to discuss potential issues and based off those conversations implement the needed measures to better the community as a whole. Not ignore the publics take and isolate everyone due to your own personal take on the matter.
If thats the case then whats to say that wont happen with other things in the future?
