It’s so very true, constantly creating boogeymen to whip up their base into a froth. In my area for months parents repeating things they hear about kids who identify as cats being provided litter boxes to pee in at school. Never once happened, it isn’t a thing.

This approach has been followed over and over again, and it works so well to motivate those voters.

What started it all was that a school which had already experienced a school shooting put buckets with sand in them in classrooms in case a student had to use the bathroom while they were locked down. Which is pretty fucking terrifying.

But conservatives instead got terrified that they were letting kids in middle school pretend to be cats.

To be fair I can empathize with their desire. They want a good and happy America and a good and happy world to live in and they are told that the reason they can’t have that is because of all of these crazy things, because our news and media empire entirely runs on human suffering, peppered with occasional feel good stories.

The pervasive sense of dread and misery?, anomia?, can’t think of the right word that you get when you interact with the news isn’t something that everyone can simply shrug off and go about their day like it’s nothing.

You would have to be a robot to not be affected by it.

Of course, this isn’t an excuse for them. The sane reaction to being constantly told bad things by a psychic vampire is to remove the psychic vampire from your life and not to act on what the psychic vampire has said.

I mean, when your crazy Aunt Linda starts ranting at Thanksgiving dinner about how they put poison in the salad dressing, you don’t throw out the salad dressing you tell Linda that if she doesn’t like the salad dressing she doesn’t have to eat it otherwise she needs to shut up and eat her turkey.

But you give crazy Aunt Linda 500 million a year and the ability to scream her insanity into 110 million people’s ears 24 hours a day and you get a world full of crazy people.

Fyi putting something in quotes means you’re being sarcastic. The added /s makes no sense.

No it doesn’t. It means that you are quoting someone, as the name of the characters implies.

Which is btw what the other poster was doing, quoting what the generic conservative person says when confronted. Kinda strawman-y but w/e, it’s for fun.

Dude, I was arguing with some coworkers yesterday and they were ADAMANT that people need the right to run people over at a protest in their car in case they need “SeLf deFenSe” from the protestors. Because according to them, peaceful protests are ALWAYS riots and they’re always out to get you, pull you out of your car, and beat you.

Anyone remember the freakout over fentanyl in Halloween candy? That hysteria reminded me of when D.A.R.E. had is convinced that kids would be offering us free drugs and forcing us to take them.

There’s been scaremongering about drugs in Halloween candy forever. Because kids definitely have money for drugs, so getting them hooked on them on a night where they don’t know which house they got the drugs from is a very good idea.

I was told that only women and children should be allowed to immigrate across the Mexican border because over 99% of the men trying to come into the U.S. were pedophiles. “That’s a fact and you can look it up” she said.

I didn’t even want to try to discuss extradition with that woman.

I actually kind of admire it. The ability to manipulate all of those idiots.

Somewhere along the line politicians figured out that you can actually win even if your platform barely mentions politics.

People have this desire to hate eachother that much. So much so that you will always vote for the candidate that makes the people you hate the most angry.

    It’s genius.

I was walking by a faith over fear sign today, and I just want to know how these same people believe that God will save them, and their children from a virus, but not their children from being turned gay by liberals? Can someone explain this to me?

And then they post some video or article that is supposed to validate their fears, but it either contains no evidence or has no verified information whatsoever.

I wish I could just pick and choose what to believe.
