Belarus has almost half as many maternal deaths per live birth as the country just 2 spots below. What kind of Juche Necromancy are they using?

Belarus is to socialism what puberty blockers are for trans people. Puberty blockers may not give you the body you want but it stops you from the body you don’t want. Belarus’ political system may not give you the socialist system you want but it stops capitalism from taking over control.

How much of a principled socialist is Lukashenko? He seems to be doing his best to preserve Belarus’s state-owned economy, somewhat like North Korea.

Is he holding out until the rise of the multipolar world allows for snaller countries like Belarus to be out-and-about socialist?

Lukashenko being evil, obviously, as his regressive Soviet-era policies are keeping the Angel of Death from competing in a fair playing field. Experts warn that only a rules-based and competitive free market system will keep the Maternal Death Economy from total stagnation and collapse (source: New York Times)

    Reference

For comparison, the Europe wide average is 13.2 (12 times higher than belarus), US has 21.1 (~19 times higher) and China has 23.0 (~21 times higher).

Like if these stats are fully “apples to apples” comparisons then Belarus appears to have God levels of maternal healthcare.

      According to this article :

Maternal health care in Belarus received some overdue attention. Between 2005 and 2010, several health resolutions were initiated under the new Government of the Republic of Belarus, including a greater focus on reducing maternal mortality rates.

One such initiative was to build health facilities in rural areas, so that expectant Belarusian mothers in agricultural townships would have the same access to care as their urban counterparts. Another was to create a multileveled perinatal care system, made possible with the support of the head of state who approved the allocation of funds to improve maternal health care in Belarus. This included employing almost 2,700 obstetrician-gynecologists to treat a population of roughly 4.8 million women of fertile age. This initiative was implemented in 2005.

I read the article. And like, half of it is just bizarre USSR bashing with an ideological lens (even though soviet-era USSR was still ranked highly in the world), while the post-USSR era Belarussian healthcare system is analyzed materialistically.

Well, it’s still somewhat interesting information.
