Really informative website from the 90s which was a one-stop-shop for authoritative information about Samurai.
Keep in mind, this was before Wikipedia. Finding high quality information online was much more difficult online in the past, but this was a rare gem.
Anyhow, I was able to use the site for research for a grade school paper, and I can proudly say I got A grade on it.
Samurai.Ninjas.
Thank you for this. It’s so good to see the beautiful, fun energy, of the early internet, still in its original glory.
Ninjas are cool, and by cool I mean totally sweet.

ninjawords.com A really fast dictionary…fast like a ninja. No bs, no ads, no videos, just a really fast dictionary.
Looks interesting, but it won’t stop loading for drag.

Back in 1999 a lot of websites would consist of a full-page Adobe Flash program (something that no longer works in modern browsers) a bit like how a lot of websites now are basically JavaScript apps. Because the speed of internet connections was so low back then it could take a long time for those flash apps to load all their content, so while you were waiting they might play a little animation or something that served as an “intro”.
Zombo com was a parody of those websites. There was no actual content, it just played a really really long intro that consisted of colorful blinking circles and audio of a guy saying variations of “welcome to zombo com, you can do anything here, anything at all” over and over again.
It finally loaded. This website is amazing.
Y’all know Neocities.org, but it deserves a mention. It’s literally THE site for unseen sites.
I’ve never heard of this, near name, obvious plug at good ol geocities
Its basially the online version of a board game called “Secret Hitler” where players play the role of Liberals and fascists of 1930s weimar republic. Liberals are trying to pass 5 liberal policies, fascists are trying to pass 6 fascist policies. When fascist policies are passed, there are some special abilities that lets players “kill” another player, removing them from the game.
The board game with friends is probably more fun, but if you don’t have friends, you can play with strangers online.
can I play with friends online? or better yet can we use this as a substitute to the board game?
You can, if you have friends that is.
Ajacam.
A woman set up a 24 hour video camera on her life - hardcore sex and all - almost 20 years ago. If I didn’t have a few screen captures, I’d doubt it ever existed.

French History blog. Been reading it for years.
Anybody else remember Turntable.fm? It’s gone now but it was so much fun. Literally anyone could hop on the virtual turntables and drop a set (or just play individual songs if they didn’t have the skillset).
Don’t know why it shut down but it probably had something to do with copyright. But for a brief moment it was some of the most fun I ever had on the internet.
That sounds really cool. Seems like something that Spotify or Tidal could have as a feature, since all the music will already be licensed.
I wish they would. It was really neat cause the website would give everyone an avatar and stick them in a virtual nightclub. So as you were performing, you could see the crowd get bigger and everyone’s reactions to your set. It was the closest you could get to feeling like a real DJ without owning a VR headset.
Yeah, that sounds awesome. Would love something like that.
