Not sure how people can handle advertising in media. Having been without it for so long, sitting down to watch something with a family member on an ad-supported plan feels almost traumatic every time the ad roll pops in at a dramatic moment, or even just for the 5-8 minutes they sometimes run. Personally; I’d much rather have the mind space back than have a company pay pennies on the dollar to force something in front of me vs the dollars the delivery provider would change me to remove them. It’s all so scummy 😮💨
I think if effort was made to make the ads sort of standardized and really basic than they wouldn’t be so bad
No one is watching these ads. That’s the big bubble of modern TV. People just mute them or go to the kitchen. And the more ads and interruptions there are, the more likely people aren’t going to bother watching at all. There are too many other things competing for the viewer’s attention (multiple streaming channels, YouTube, TikTok, doomscrolling, video games, actual outdoor activities, etc.)
I do think youtube is scamming advertisers by overstating the impressions
People have always gone to the kitchen when ads play. That’s not a new secret of modern TV.
I suspect mobile phones are the biggest distraction from ads, if it’s not already out it will be as soon as the ad starts. I suspect that’s also why many people don’t care about ads, they weren’t paying attention anyway.
With terrible engagement rates we get more ads, worse ads, which have even worse engagement rates. I’d say the bottom has to drop out eventually but I’ve seen live sports and it’s clear you can shove infinite ads and people will still watch.
Yeah, the moment they put ads into Netflix I’m leaving. I want to watch American pharmaceutical ads because they are fucking hilariois and knowing I won’t see them since I’m not American it’ll just be annoying af.
Netflix has ads, that’s what this is about.
