Comparisons were quickly made with - and expectations tied to - last year’s Pelicot mass rape trial in southern France and the massive global attention it garnered.

Instead, the trial of France’s most prolific known paedophile, Joel Le Scouarnec - a retired surgeon who has admitted in court to raping or sexually assaulting 299 people, almost all of them children - is coming to an end this Wednesday amid widespread frustration.

“I’m exhausted. I’m angry. Right now, I don’t have much hope. Society seems totally indifferent. It’s frightening to think [the rapes] could happen again,” one of Le Scouarnec’s victims, Manon Lemoine, 36, told the BBC.

People didn’t get their justice for well known rapes during war, and here you are acting like prisons are full of people falsely acused of it. Meanwhile, women walk around Vukovar seeing their rapists walk around like nothing happened.

Btw, we regularly have people get shorter or no sentenced for rapists who were in wars. Victims never get justice.

Not what I was going for, I’m just very pissed of about terrible “justice” system in the Balkans. Nobody does anything about minor crimes, let alone something big. Croatia is a corrupt shithole, that’s about it. Like most of the world.

I’m not talking about people who didn’t rape but were accused of it. I’m talking about actual rapists. Funny how quick people are to defend rapists.

Rape convictions are already almost impossible, the bar couldn’t be any higher. All your comment does is remind victims, once again, that false accusations are the real problem.

Citation needed. And enough with the pretence that it ruins everyones lives. The US elected an accused and adjudicated rapist so that’s a staight up lie.

Can you point out the part in that dataset that mentions false accusations? A search turned up nothing.

              ETA:

Few jurisdictions have a distinct classification of false accusation, resulting in these cases being combined with other types of cases (e.g., where the accuser did not physically resist the suspect or sustain injuries) under headings such as “unfounded” or “unproved”. There are many reasons other than falsity that can result in a rape case being closed as unfounded or unproven.[18][19]

Do you have any data regarding proven false allegations? Unfounded or unproven does not mean false.
